When the weather gets warmer (fina-freakin’-lly, amiright East Coasters???), I find myself straying away from accessories and going right for the simple, easy and loose things to just throw on and go. Maybe it’s just a subconscious twist on “less is more,” feeling like I’d really maximize my fun in the sun if I nix the accessories and just go with “simplicity.”
But that’s not really all that true.
It is totally possible to throw on staple accessories and play up a relaxed spring wardrobe with the right pieces. Last time around these parts, I took denim-on-denim and put the accent on a plaid blanket scarf (my favorite), chunky pearls all over, and bits of black in funky eyeglasses, a statement necklace and my go-to leopard bag.
Right now, my all-time fave look is dressing up a fun graphic tee – it’s simple and comfy, but can get to lookin’ oh-so-polished if you have fun with it!
1. Black floppy hat
This is actually called a “Pack-a-hat,” which I originally thought to just be a funny marketing ploy when I was first sent it from Cappelli Straworld. I mean, aren’t most floppy hats flexible enough to be compacted in for packing purposes?? But I love how I can whip this one out of a pretttttty tightly folded up space and throw it on to cover two or three-day hair (or dry shampoo snafus). Plus, nothing beats a hat when summer comes along, because this baby is beach ready! I’m all about grabbing all of those accessories that transition fabulously between seasons, too, so this hat is it. (P.S. If you want your own Pack-a-Hat – which comes in a cute little straw packing pouch – get free shipping by shopping here!)
2. Rose-colored scarf
The hardest part for me about dressing for spring is the sometimes way-too-stark difference between outside and inside temperatures. When it’s particularly torch-like outdoors and I’m sweating up a storm, the AC indoors is usually cranked to the max, leaving me shivering after 15 minutes! Marled knit is literally the perfect solution, which is why I love this lightweight infinity scarf from FabulouScarves. It’s a perfect color for spring (rose is always in, right?) and still enough to provide a little warmth if your shoulders and arms get chilly. Plus, the muted pop of color keeps a black-and-grey look still sophisticated and polished.
3. Blingy statement necklace
This might take the cake for favorite necklace this season! I’ve gotten a ridiculous number of compliments on it, because it’s just so fun and versatile. It’s an easy way to add a bit (or a lot) of bling to an otherwise simplistic ensemble, and for that, I love it! Sparkle & Whim has a variety of similar pieces, because turns out…this one already sold out. My favorite part? Meg is the cutest business owner, and she ships each and every package to you in a cute box wrapped in a hot pink bow. (Use code erica15 for 15% off your entire Sparkle & Whim order through May 15!)
4. Oversized tortoise sunnies
Alright alright, I admit it: I’m a total sunglasses hoarder. I basically live in ’em when the sun decides to shine, so I have probably 12 different pairs lying around on every countertop and in every bag. Since I wear them hard, I’m a sucker for quality glasses that don’t break the bank. My current obsession are these torties that I was sent from Polette – an awesome little French-based online shop with an obnoxiously fabulous collection of sunnies and prescription eyeglasses. Can’t stop won’t stop wearing them.
What do you play up a graphic tee for springtime?
