Happy day-after-Father’s-Day, Happy Summer, Happy Monday, Happy LIFE, you happy people you! First things first: did you get your dad a case of beer? The guy at the beer distributor thought it was weird that I had my cat in the car with me like how dog’s drive in cars, looking out the window all starry eyed and full of life…I swear Pumpkin is more like a puppy. Anyone else’s kittens love to go for joy rides in the passenger seat?
Now, for something long overdue around these parts…some accessorizing! If you’re new here (welcome! Sipping bubbly in your honor now…), Accent On: is a fun lil’ Coming Up Roses series where I give one basic outfit a few different vibes through a quick switch of accessories. I’ve already transformed a bright sweater, denim on denim, and my Wifey tee, and now I’m taking my favorite lived-in charcoal t-shirt dress from H&M for a spin. (It’s not available online now, but a ton of similar options are linked down below!)
1. Little White Layer
Technically a little cardigan is likely not considered an “accessory,” but I definitely think short-sleeved ones fit the bill. I mean, they don’t *actually* keep you warm…they just make an outfit a bit more modest and cover up shoulders if need be. So accessory it is! I love the lacy crochet detailing on the bottom of this one that I raided from my mom’s closet. It gives it such a feminine, sweet touch; paired with more ornate cork wedges, I think it really jazzes up a simple t-shirt dress. This one was about $12 from H&M a few seasons ago, but I’ve linked a whole slue of similar options for you down below!
2. Chunky n’ Chains Statement Necklace
I’m SUCH a sucker for awesome statement necklaces. Pretty sure every single “Accent On:” post will feature some sort of blinged out, chunky, shiny bauble or another, because I think they just transform certain outfits and bring attention right up to your sunshine-y face. I snagged this beaut on clearance at Burlington with a matching pair of earrings for something like 9 bucks. Their statement and costume jewelry collections are totally awesome – super affordable, but also unique enough that you feel justified buying a few and calling it an investment in your accessory wardrobe. (;
3. Vogue Tortoise Sunnies
I have been OBSESSED with all of my oversized sunnies from French e-commerce retailer, Polette. They’ve got sunglasses and eyeglasses and can work through their online optician, which is pretty sweet for busy people like us #bossladies, right? But my favorite part: they’re so stinkin’ affordable. Polette has sunglasses that are more unique and sometimes cheaper than those at Target – and we know how obsessed the majority of Millennial America (OK, the majority of femalekind) is with the Big Red Bullseye. They’re so well-made and feel like they won’t break when I inevitably drop them or toss them loose in my bag, and they’re so trendy and fashion-forward. I. Love. Get your own oversized Vogue pair here (they come in tortoise and black), and stick around for a chance to win your own below…
4. Owl Infinity Scarf
Usually, scarves are probably the *last* thing you want around your neck. It’s supposed to be 91 degrees in Philadelphia today…why the heck would I want something suffocating my neck space?!?! Usually I can’t even stand my hair on my neck when the thermometer starts rising. But lightweight, airy scarves don’t hold you down or keep you warm the way winter favorites do, and most don’t even get all up in your space. I love the quirkiness of this light cotton Owl infinity scarf, and the fact that it’s black and white means it matches, like, 3/4 of my closet. My all-time favorite way to style it is to channel my inner geek, wearing a high sock bun and my black eyeglasses and a bright, bold lip (naturally). There’s a buncha similar light scarves linked below for your shopping pleasure. (:
I love the variety in the t-shirt dresses I found and linked below…from double tiers to fringe to splashes of grey pattern, I think there are so many cute options that can be accessorized literally however your heart desires.
May your Monday be short and your coffee be tall, and all your accessorizing be on fleek this week.
How would you accessorize a basic t-shirt dress for summer?
Now I’m thinking that your week is gonna be bright…so you might want some new shades. Special thanks to Polette for giving a pair of ridiculously cute sunnies away to one of you ridiculously cute Coming Up Roses readers!
P.S. And for your shopping pleasure, I’ve rounded up a slue of light n’ airy scarves, fun statement necklaces, and oversized sunnies! Nothing quite like my favorite finds above, but there are definitely GEMS in this pot. Check ’em out, and let me know what your favorites are!
