It’s Friday, Friday, gonna get down on Friday! WOO FRIDAY. I’m hyped on Friday and a venti right now, so the excitement levels *might* reach an all-time high today. I mean hey…gotta do something to push through the last day of RA training and brace myself for 26 overeager college freshmen, amiright? Right.
And One Thing, Ten Ways is the something for now. If you’re new to these parts (welcome, welcome, welcome!), this series is all about taking some otherwise hard-to-wear pieces and showing you how you (yes, you!) can incorporate it into your own wardrobe and rock it with a whole bunch of pieces for a whole slue of occasions. Sound good? Let’s dive in together.
Now styling: this black and white striped skirt from Mikarose.
I am l-o-v-i-n-g this skirt. It’s kinda perfect for any occasion. It’s work appropriate, so you can strut into the office in style. It’s happy hour approved, so you can look super cute and trendy while sipping on something yummy. It’s easily dressed up for a fancy schmancy occasions (I see you fall weddings!) and can be dressed down for jetting around town with your girlfriends. It. is. perfect. (And super soft! Woo!)
And Mikarose – they’re this fabulous shop dedicated to reinventing modesty, so they’re celebrating more conservative clothes without sacrificing style. A total win whether it’s the nature of the occasion, your faith, or your personal taste that necessitates it.
Before I start the countdown, I’ve gotta mention: you NEED to head to Instagram today, because we’re giving away 50 buckaroos to Mikarose. Boom sauce.
Now y’all know what’s next…let’s talk the ten, from left to right, top to bottom.
One. Orange you glad? This series has got me pushing my own style boundaries and styling dresses underneath skirts. This is no different – I took this flowy peach frock and layered the high-waisted striped skirt overtop to create a really smooth, elongated look with mile-long leg and volume up top.
Two. Sporty spice. There are some days where nothing beats a good jersey knit. This J. Crew tank with light pink lace applique is great for those days when you just wanna throw something on and look semi-put together. But it’ll top that by making you look *totally* put together! I love how the top of the skirt shows through a little; it’s a sneaky little peek for an added bit of fun.
Three. This floral cardigan is beyond comfortable, and the black additions mean it goes with this skirt in the ultimate mixy-matchy way.
Four. A hot pink ruffle tank is the perfect pop of color; couple it with this black and white skirt for a summertime office-chic look that really kicks “business casual” up a notch.
Five. All about chambray. If you’ve been around these rosy parts for any bit of time, you probably know my love for chambray knows no bounds. ICYMI: I friggin’ love chambray. I never miss an opportunity to add another soft denim shirt to my closet, and I never miss an opportunity to pair chambray with new, fun pieces. When in doubt about how to style something closer to the wild side (ie: a bold striped skirt, leopard print booties, the works), chambray can act as a versatile neutral that’s comfy as heck and goes with anything.
Six. Peekaboo. A sheer shirt can be uber sexy, and I totally love pairing one with more modest bottoms for a perfectly complimentary look that’s great for heading out for a night on the town.
Seven. Slouchin’ around. Fall is almost here (finally!), and ain’t nobody got time – or moola – to completely re-do a wardrobe. This skirt works fabulously straight into fall when worn with a lighter-weight slouchy sweater that’s oh so soft.
Eight. I’m bringing lacy back. This is actually a lace-back leotard, meaning it’s *perfect* for pairing with a high-waisted skirt that necessitates tucking in of a top. I can’t wait to wear this to a wedding this October with some gorgeous colored heels. This also means your legs are gonna look looooooong, so it’s a great way to show off an asset without showing skin. (I recommend wearing sticky boobs instead of a normal bra to get that pretty sheer look in the back!)
Nine. Professional print mixer. Don’t be afraid to mix prints in the office! Since this blouse has both black and white in the pattern, it blends well with the two bold stripe colors. Try to push yourself out of your closet comfort zone by dipping your toes in the print-mixing waters; this comfy skirt lends itself quite well to the challenge!
Ten. A little party never killed nobody. And what’s a little party without a sparkly blazer? This peach and black Forever 21 blazer was a secondhand store find, and I LOVE the combination of professionalism and fun. Even though this skirt is a statement, both the stripes and sequins are subtle enough to be paired together for one heckuvah killer outfit.
