Summertime and the livin’ is eaaaaaasy – and hot, humid, sticky and sweaty. Bubble burster, amiright? For as much as I love a good vacation, sometimes I feel like the only time I truly enjoy the summer season in all its glory is when I’m ON vacation, on a beach, soaking it all up. Otherwise, I’ve gotta pull up my hair, re-apply deodorant twice a day and avoid waistbands like the plague, and ain’t nobody got time for that. I never do as much laundry or go through as many outfits as I do on a hot summer day. I sleep in as little as possible to not get overheated, I throw on sweats upon waking if it’s cool first thing in the AM, I wear cute summery outfits for work in the cool AC, change once or twice if there are errands to be run outside, and then change again once J gets home for a comfy evening at home together – it’s exhausting. Ya feel?

In other seasons, there’s no need for anything waterproof, there’s no obnoxious difference in outdoor and indoor temperature, there’s no profuse sweating – that’s when livin’ is truly easy amiright??? On this gloriously sweat-worthy day of shooting, golden hour hit 100 degrees. At 5 pm, it was still 100 degrees.

If there is any summertime style recommendation I can toss your rosy way, it’s this:

wear cotton.

Cotton is the most breathable, durable, scent repellent fabric there is. You guys know I’m ALL about versatility in style and getting the most bang for your buck. So why the heck would I wanna be changing constantly?!? Pieces should transcend the test of time, both in trend and temperature . And being comfortable should not mean you have to look schlummy and uncomfortable being seen by the world (or at least Snapchat)!  Besides that, cotton is a natural fiber (hollah!) and wears well, so you can save money on higher quality pieces that last longer, without sacrificing style.

True style is being comfortable on the inside AND outside. Nothing puts the kibosh on confidence quite like sweat stains in summer – except maybe smelly pits? Like really, does the struggle ever end?! I swear if there was a magic pill for surviving summer with grace, I’d be hooked. Luckily, no pills needed – a good cotton will do the trick.

QUICK TIP: Cotton blends are okay!  To reap the rewards of the fabric, just make sure your clothes are cotton-rich, meaning the labels should read 60% or higher for all apparel and 90% or more for denim. Especially with the rise of fabric blends, make sure you double check the label before buying/wearing, just because it’s becoming increasingly difficult to discern fabric type by touch!
