Hope you enjoyed this fashion forward prelude of an edgy-chic look I loved this weekend. I paired print H&M pants with these vermillion flats from Forever 21 that I bought completely impulsively (I mean, wouldn’t you?). Added black on top for a chic, modern look that works whether you’re headed to church&brunch or a date night! Super chill and casual. Now, for the hour’s scheduled programming…
I need a coffee IV after this weekend. Last night’s Beyoncé-concert-interrupted-by-a-football-game took a toll. How do sports lovers do it?? Games are so long that snacks are just an obvious, and this morning I woke up in a cheese dip coma.
But besides le Superbowl, this weekend has been full of house happenings, and it’s time I fill you guys in on what’s happening in my life lately. I made it a vow to myself to get more personal on CUR, sharing more day-to-day details instead of trying to always come up with posts with a point to be helpful or inspirational or useful in one way or another. So for anyone who’s interested, here’s what’s been up.
Maybe you’re on the CUR Sunday newsbreak list and get those inspirational shots in your inbox already, or maybe you read this post – either way, you got word that J and I had our hearts set on a house and it ended up totally not working out. Long story there short, we had thought that this one particular house was our only shot to being in a house in a few months and not renting in an apartment. When my parents came up to check it out, they gave us the brutal truth…that essentially waaaaaaay too much moola was going to be needed to get it to be really liveable, and as a “starter home,” it just wouldn’t be worth it.
We were crushed and felt clueless, but we had turned right back around and gone neck deep in research that same night. Neither J nor I knew anything about the housing market before being thrown into the fire. And if you haven’t experienced a house hunt yet, it can be a hella hard thing. Besides the journey of trying to actually find a place that fits your criteria (like your budget, location, and interior constraints), there’s the point that anyone can put an offer on a house at any moment. If someone offers higher than you or is an overall more “attractive” prospective buyer, since there are SO many factors that go into this whole thing, you likely won’t get the place. From things like loans and mortgages to settlements, the whole process is CRAY, and J is 100% the pro between us since I’m *still* pretty un-savvy with the whole thing. But.
A week later we had a weekend booked full of checking out houses and townhomes. Last Saturday, we had found one townhome that we just loveloveloved instantly. J and I knew in our guts it was the one. So we went back on Sunday to that same place and brought my rents just because (they’re my BFFs if you couldn’t tell), and by Sunday night, our realtor told us there was already an offer on it.
It had been on the market for 3 days.
But we just had this gut feeling, so we pursued it, too. By Monday night, there were three offers on the table including ours, and our realtor called us to say that our offer wasn’t the highest…
…but we still got the house.
This doesn’t happen in real estate. Or at least, I never thought this happened! I totally credit God, because He’s the only possible explanation. So this past Saturday, we went back to get our inspections done, and it’ll officially be ours pending nothing goes wrong in a few weeks.
I’ll be graduating college (more on post-grad plans to come! ‘Twas going to be a long post, so I broke that sucker up into two. 😉 ), moving in with J into our very own townhome, getting hitched and fully launching the entrepreneurial biz all in the span of 2016.
Somebody pinch me. And pass me some wine, because Lord knows I’ll need it + girlfriends through it all.
In the mean time, if you or anyone you know has a furniture or home decor shop and wants to team up for some fun home projects, shoot me an email! Would lovelovelove to chat collaboration.
Have you already experienced a big move before and/or buying a house? What was it like for you?
Pleasepleaseplease pass along some tips and tricks, because y’all are a bunch of smartypants and I’m sure you’ve got great advice! Also what did you think of le Super Bowl? I was so into my chips n’ dip that I almost missed the game. Almost. 😉
