It feels like every time I’m starting a style post around these parts, it begins with something like “Girlfriend loves a good sale.” Because, well…girlfriend loves a good sale. Like, loveloveloves a good sale. Anytime I buy anything, there’s a reaaaaaally good chance it’s on sale. Probably supersale. Cos that’s just how sistah shops. 😉 I remember the days when Nordstorm seemed like this uppity distant luxury retailer for the rich and famous; I would scoff at how crazy everyone was who spent too-much on “the same” tops and bottoms I was finding at discounted retailers elsewhere. But then I learned…they weren’t/aren’t “the same.” The first dress I got from Nordstrom was one I scored (on sale, of course) for around $30. And up to that point, I’ll be honest…I don’t think I had spent more than that on just a normal everyday dress before. But the second I tried it on, I knew…I was onto something. Really, maybe everyone else was onto something. Cos this dress was *fabulous*. It fit me perfectly, it was made SO STINKIN’ WELL, and it arrived in no time to my doorstep. As I started experimenting picking up more “everyday essentials” from Nordstrom online, I realized that no retailers are truly created equal. And yannnnno what? Goshdarnit it’s WORTH IT to pay a few extra bucks for something that is just made that much better, that will last that much longer, and that will make you feel truly hella awesome wearing it, cos it fits ya like a gem and just works like a charm.
So, I’m hooked.
Hello my name is Erica, and I’m a new Nordstrom addict.
The other cool thing about Nordstrom? Their inventory. They always have LOTS of inventory to go around, and/or get more in. Which works really really really nicely whenever I’m wearing something that any of you want to buy – it’s nice being able to actually give you what you want and have you be able to get what I’m wearing, too!
Nordstorm’s Winter Sale is going on through the weekend, and I went through it all (literally, all of it. While listening to my February Spotify playlist three times over.) to find the best of the best still in stock, worth the money, or just necessary to snag before Sunday night rolls around. I’m categorizing it all and giving call-outs to specific products that I either am purchasing or already scored, so ya know what’s up. There are 10 categorical essentials to shop, so here are my 10 picks from the Nordstrom Sale. Cool beans? Cool beans.
First up, comfy everyday essentials. I’ve gotten quite a few of these lately, and I think there’s just nothing better than finding a soft, livable top that you can seamlessly transition from day to night – from lounging around in to working hard, from running errands to running to a meeting or datenight.
That first white + black striped top is the one I’m wearing here and that I’ve been raaaaaving about basically everywhere – #SorryNotSorry. It’s the softest thing. And it’s under $15 now. Le duh. The plum-colored cross-front top is also uber soft, and I’m shooting that this weekend for future style content on CUR. Lovelovelove this one for literally everything, day to night. And it comes in multiple colors, so I’m snagging another before the sale is over! The third piece – the deeper V striped number – is actually a bodysuit. #BLESS. I lovelovelove bodysuits. I think they’re just the coolest, and they eliminate that awful feeling of having your pants fall down too far requiring a solid jump-and-hike-back-up. This one is already on its way to mi casa! I’m also picking up one of the lightweight thermals with the thumb hole sleeves – SO perfect for fall layering and seasonal transitioning.
Standout booties under $60
That’s right…all under $60. Really, I think only one is over $55, and most are under $50. If you need cute booties, now’s the time. Those blue velvet ones are SO FRIGGIN’ COOL and comes in loads of other colors, too, and the gladiator-esque lace up open booties are perfect for welcoming spring (and they look like other brands’ versions that cost at least double the price!).
Clarisonic set for $100 off
I’ve raved about my Clarisonics (yup, I have two) in my fall skincare routine post, as well as in my Top 10 Skincare post cos they’re just. that. good. I have two different ones – one for travel, and one for once or twice a week deep clean. Y’all. For this SMART Profile set to include a hardcore Clarisonic device with a facial brush head, a body massage brush head, the refreshing gel cleanser, and refining skin polish and be price matched AND 33% off to come down to $199…that’s literally a steal. Not to mention it comes with a three year warranty. AND this whole SMART power thing…it’s got this technology to automatically read and adjust power, timing, and frequency for the perfect deep, gentle cleanse. I first fell in lovelovelove with my Clarisonic when I realized how much more makeup it took off than any other cleansing method (whether that be hands, washclothes, wipes, etc), and on the website it says it’s actually 11x better at removing longwear makeup than hands alone, and 30x better at removing age-accelerating pollutants. Like…yaaaaaas. #ForeverYoung
All sorts of statement earrings from BaubleBar, Kendra Scott, and Kate Spade are 40% off. The pink pom pom tassel ones aren’t on sale, but in the sale price point, and I lovelovelove mine so I included ’em in the mix anyways. 😉 They’re the ones I’m wearing in this blog post – super duper lightweight, so if you get bothered by heavier earrings but still want to make a statement, I’d recommend these fosho. I’ve got the longer beaded goldish tassel earrings in my cart now, as well as the pearl + gold cuff bracelet (it’s $6.98!).
With spring approaching, now is basically the best time to grab a coat. First up, that gorgeous Michael Kors trenchcoat is under $150, and that second puffy winter coat from Ralph Lauren is under $200. I have a MK trench in a bright coral color that I scored at Burlington one season for around $70, and it is made so so well – definitely worth it, especially in a classic nude or black color (coral was all they had at Burlington, so I went with it 😉 ). That third jacket, the canvas anorak, is basically the ultimate spring jacket when it’s still a bit breezy and cold sometimes (especially in the evening), but daytime is warmer and sunshine-y. It’s a lighterweight fabric, so it does the trick!
Home sweet home
There are so many totally random but totally awesome home deals happening. That first pillow saws “I’ve got a crust on you” with pizza on it, so…obvi. Followed by another pizza pillow, cos…obvi. But then this gorgeous white duvet for 100 bucks?! Steal. Then matching shot + wine glasses? Yaaaas. I’m debating getting us the red Popcorn pillow for our basement…thoughts?? And then if ya need a good gift idea for your man, that dart board is on sale for under $15.
Girlfriend, you know I lovelovelove a good bag. Every girl should have a leopard print bag in her closet, cos leopard is a neutral. Fact. That next silver bag with pom poms is just amazeballs, and the next one is a pink Kate Spade crossbody, and pink is baaaasically a neutral in this situation, too. 😉 Then there are some with sparkles, studs, floral appliques, tassels…they’re fun and many come in total spring colors. Another highlight: the iPhone purse-case things in the mix. It’s like a wallet meets clutch meets phone case all in one, and it’s awesome.
…I’m also a newfound MAC girl. Their stuff is just so dang good, y’all. I can’t resist. MAC is just sitting and staring at me going “Baby I’m worth it,” and I’m staring back going I KNOW THO, I KNOW. Only two shades of the liquid lipcolor are still in stock at the $5 price point, but if you’ve been wanting to try a good red lip, the time is now. This formula is killer. It literally lasts for hooouuuuurs without being overly drying. Lipglasses by MAC are also great, so stock up. And mini mascaras…I LIVE on mascara. I think I’d feel more naked going down the street sans mascara than I would sans clothing. JK JK, but you get my point. 😉 I always have mascara with me, whether it’s in my purse, in my car, at my desk – anywhere. Mini tubes are so clutch for this. If you’ve never tried colored mascara…I’d also recommend giving it a go. I tried it through a PR sample once and it was lovelovelove at first sight. At first you think it’ll be weird, but I think it makes for such a cool look when you’re playing up on color all over your eyes. For example, I like purple and plum tones on brown eyes. So sometimes, I’ll go all out with purples and plums and mauves, from shadow to liner, and then finish with a purple mascara. It adds that little bit of artistry to your look.
Ladies, if you’re shopping for your man (or if he just needs a few new things), there are some goodies for him, too! Lots is around 40% off, so it really just depends on your budget and what you or he is trying to spend. I have to snag the $20 lounge pants for J, cos for the longest time he was running around in cheap fleece pants that were $5 at Big Lots and totally falling apart – HA. I’m tellin’ ya, Nordstrom knows how to step it up with everyday essentials! Sometimes like a Vineyard Vines pullover makes for a great giftable, and a $20 Nike tee is perfect for the athlete in yo’ life.
Last, but not least, some of my favorite faves from random categories. One of my favorite brands from Nordstrom is Lush (it’s the brand that makes a lot of my favorite dresses, like this one), cos everything they make is so dang versatile, flowy, and comfy. That shorter floral dress is Lush, so you best believe it’s in my cart! The “Hot Stuff” makeup bag is just a total impuse buy, but like…you need it, yannnno? The pink top comes in a TON of colors actually – it’s the tunic I have in olive and white so far, and lovelovelove. I’m getting the pink one before the sale ends, and maybe another color, too?? Y’all. It’s just so VERSATILE. You can wear it to work, to coffee, running errands, out on a date – the sky is the limit. I will say size down, tho – it runs big! I get an XS, which I never get in tops, FYI. Ivy Park workout pants are on sale, and #Beyonce. I’m loveloveloving the leopard print UGG slippers – they’re top of wishlist. And the red lace midi dress is simply STUNNING for any sort of fancier affair you have coming up! I’m not into spending the big bucks on fancier things, cos more often than not, you might only wear it once or twice! This is on sale for $89, and while that’s still not nothing, it’s so much better than, say, over $150 for a one-time wear.
Do you shop at Nordstrom?
If you shopped the Nordstrom sale, what’d you score? What are your favorite things to shop for there? I’m fosho only scratching the surface so far on what all is best to buy at Nordstrom versus somewhere else, so if you’ve recommendations from personal experiences, I would so lovelovelove to hear ’em in the comments below!
