For 21 years of life thus far, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t “on-the-go.” If it wasn’t running from swimming practice to basketball or home quick to do all of my homework before a four hour theater rehearsal, it was just having to bebop around before track and make it home in time for dinner before heading out again for another activity. And now is no different; I jump between campus with my freshmen (go RA life!) to J’s apartment. I’m constantly needing to throw a few things in a bag and go. And from my middle and high school days, I grew to seriously resent the whole “bag lady” connotation when I’d end up toting around five different things for my daily activity line-up. Condensing is key to happiness. It’s key to organization and peace of mind, and it’s key to helping your body out! I would end up so sore from all of the bags and things I was lugging around regularly, and some days enough is enough. Now, for my daily commute into the city, I keep my Dagne Dover tote filled with a few essentials that transcend the work day and work for pretty much any time.
(P.S. if you’re curious and end up wanting to try any of my on-the-go favorites, scroll to the bottom for shoppable links!) For summertime, I absolutely must have my mini tube of Jergens Natural Glow en tote. It’s such a light bronzing lotion and daily moisturizer, and I know it won’t take me back to the days of haphazardly spraying on self-tanner to wake up with orange streaks all over my arms.
When I’m on-the-go, I need lippies that moisturize while also adding a great pop of color. Oh, and I need to be able to apply sans mirror. Because ain’t nobody got time to whip out the makeup bag when traveling on a train – I have to be able to whip it out, wipe it on, and go! I’ve got two must-haves here: Revlon’s Ultra HD Lipstick in the shade Gladiolas (as seen in my Target Beauty Box unboxing here) and Nyx’s Mega Shine Lipgloss in the shade Tea Rose. Revlon’s Ultra HD is surprisingly hydrating for a lipstick, and it glides on so smoothly. Plus, the bright red pop is perfect for bold lip lovers like me. Nyx’s mega shine gloss is just a gorgeous natural shade with some shine – perfect for just touching up your look and pulling yourself together while bebopping around!
I’m a huge scent gal, and having a rollerball fragrance in my bag is always a must. This particular perfume is near and dear to my heart, because it’s what I wore the summer that I met J! #nostalgia What is it? Wait for it…Paris Hilton’s Siren. It’s this light fragrance with white floral, fruity, vanilla, citrus, sweet and a tad powdery. I don’t typically like powdery fragrances, but this is one of my all-time faves.
I picked up Sonia Kashuk’s Purple Seductia hand creme on a total whim the other day. I didn’t even need a hand lotion – I just literally grabbed it off the rack, sniffed it, and went straight to bliss. It’s a blend of pomegranate, rose and patchouli, and it. is. fabulous. I then proceeded to put it on in-store and walk around smelling my hand like a total weirdo. Not even ashamed though, because it’s that. good. An exotic-but-light fruity lotion that is not greasy and hands down an essential for on-the-go summertime travels.
Does anyone else get super uncomfortable when your, um, lady products start falling out of your bag? I mean, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, but let’s keep it contained, people. I’ll admit – I’m a total sucker for cutely packaged feminine products, because if anything *does* fall out of my bag or become visible to anyone besides myself, they at least need to know that I have good taste in tampons, right? Of course. I picked up the new Pocket Pearl from Tampax, and it’s possibly the cutest tampon I’ve ever seen. Did that sentence just come out of my mouth onto this page? Yup, yup it did. I can’t even help it, #noshame, #noregrets. When you’re at the office – heck, when you’re anywhere in public – and you wanna pull the whole I-stick-my-tampon-up-my-sleeve-to-run-to-the-bathroom-discreetly, it can feel a bit like mission impossible. Pocket Pearls are full size protection that fits in your pocket, in whatever size you may need, with discreet, easy-open tabs and cute wrappers. Because us basic baes need cute tampon wrappers, right? So if you wanna prepare for your time of the month…I guess carpe diem and head to Target. But for the record, brace yo’self. I’m sure I don’t need to explain to you Target Syndrome – where you walk in the store for one thing and leave with a basket *full* of things? Yeah, we all know it and have it. This honestly might’ve been the first time ever that I went into Target aiming to buy only one thing. Not even “Yup just one thing and I’ll look around and see what happens.” Nope. Just one thing. That didn’t turn out so well.
In my defense, half of my purchases aren’t destined for me. But that Lean Cuisine Sweet and Sour Chicken sure as heck was, because this girl was craving Chinese something bad.
What’re your must-have on-the-go essentials?
