When I say summer, you say…MARGARITAS. But if you, like me, are not wasting away in Margaritaville at present, you can still get all the flavors and fun from a good margarita mocktail. 😉
This easy watermelon margarita mocktail recipe is fool-proof flavor with zero-proof inside – it tastes identical to your favorite frozen watermelon margarita, without the booze. So regardless of why you’re not drinking alcohol, it’s a fabulous, flavorful option to whip up for a refreshing summer night. Great for an evening on the patio, or to throw in Brumates for the pool or beach! I’m also the world’s biggest watermelon gal, so sign me up for another way to enjoy this fave summer fruit.
MARGARITA MOCKTAIL INGREDIENTS:
- 2-3 cups watermelon, cubed and frozen
- About half of a jalapeño, sliced and de-seeded
- 3-4 ounces of zero-proof tequila – this is our favorite!
- The juice of a freshly squeezed lime
- Coarse sea salt (I’ve also heard rave reviews about this one – gifted it to my parents for Christmas and on my own list to try next, too!)
P.S. I have this glass set from Amazon – they’re a great size for quick drinks and just look so dang cute. 🙂 And at just over 20 bucks for six glasses, they’re an easy addition to a bar cart or a great giftable for any cocktail or mocktail makers in your life!
Start by cubing your watermelon and freezing it; this will prevent drink dilution, since your frozen watermelon cubes will act as the fruit AND ice for your frozen beverage. If you cut them small enough, they should be frozen enough after about an hour.
Add a few slices of de-seeded, de-pithed jalapeño pepper for heat. This step is really up to your personal taste preferences, as you can obviously add more or less to taste depending on how spicy you want your spicy watermelon margarita mocktail to be!
Next, add 3-4 ounces (ie, 3-4 shots) of zero-proof tequila. This is our favorite, hands down – it’s got great tequila flavor without actually having any alcohol. Of course, if you want to make a boozy option, just swap out with your favorite regular tequila and you’ll have a regular ol’ frozen watermelon margarita.
For flavor, juice 1-2 limes right into your blender. Save a slice or two for final garnish!
Blend until smooth – you’ll want to make sure all of your watermelon cubes and jalapeño slices are fully blended to prevent a pulpy texture. If it gets too watery for your liking, just add a few ice cubes and blend again until it’s your perfectly preferred frozen margarita texture.
Before pouring into your glass, rim your glass with watermelon juice or lime juice. The fruit juice will help your salt or sugar rim stick without making it messy like a honey rim might. Then rim with good flakey sea salt, pour, garnish, and enjoy.

Some alternative options to this watermelon margarita mocktail…
- If you want it on the rocks instead of frozen, don’t freeze the watermelon beforehand. Just blend it at room temp!
- If you want it sans spice, nix the jalapeño peppers – or, of course, jut alter how many slices you put in until you find your ideal heat.
- If you want it boozy, just swap out your favorite regular tequila for the zero-proof, in 1:1 ratios.
