Transitional Fall Date Night Outfit

What a week. It began with a Hands Foot Mouth diagnosis – which put a halt on school (+ childcare for mama). In the middle was a storm that flooded our town; our neighbors ended up with us for hours on Wednesday night as the fire department pumped out 1.5+ feet of water from their basement. In the end was the most beautiful almost-fall day with blue skies and a light breeze, and we’re closing out the week tonight with date night – the gameplan is takeout from one of our favorite local spots and Bingo. HA.

While I won’t be wearing this exact look tonight since it’s not necessarily Bingo-chic ;), I thought it could be the perfect fall date night outfit inspiration for any of you with more “scene-y” plans on the calendar! It’s simple, chic, and comfortable if you’re still not feeling fall in 80 degree weather. 😉

Knit tank // Faux leather mini skirt // Taupe boots (similar, exact here but sold out from a few years ago!) //“Thrive” beaded bracelet // Gold stud earrings (Discount with code ERICA15AMZ)

When putting together outfits in this “transitional” time, I think the key is finding the perfect balance between fabrics, colors and cuts to feel one season while implying another.

With this particular transitional fall date night outfit, the color palette is pretty monochromatic and neutral. Black on black is chic – and always in style. Mixing textures keeps it interesting; here, the fabrics feel more fall while the cuts of the pieces say summer.

A knit sweater tank is one of my favorite transitional pieces for this time where it’s waaaaay too warm to don long sleeves, let alone long sleeve chunky knit. But since the fabric still FEELS fall, you get the look without sweating through it. 😉 This particular knit tank is an Amazon fashion find from their line, The Drop. For not even $30, I’m a fan – I will say, size DOWN one, as it runs bigger…and if you’re smaller-chested like me, you’ll thank me later! While obviously I opted for black, the caramel color is also GORGEOUS for the season.

Faux leather is another winner winner chicken dinner for any fall date night outfit, but I think I would pass out on the spot if I pulled on my Spanx leather leggings right about now. It’s just not time yet! Get the best of both worlds with a faux leather mini skirt, since your legs can breathe. 😉

I finished it off with knee-high boots; lower booties would also work, but too much bare leg didn’t fell “fall enough” for me – ha!

A good transitional fall date night outfit is versatile enough to layer for later. So here, for example, you could easily throw on a favorite suede or denim jacket or opt for over-the-knee boots (or booties with tights!) as temperatures cool down.
