Everything You Need to Know About Retinol

Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A that effectively reverses sun damage and discoloration, as well as the effects of aging by increasing your skin cell turnover.

When I was interested in using retinol I did a lot of research. Since I was already a fan of Colleen Rothschild, I decided to use her products when I was ready to safely try retinol. (Don't use retinol while pregnant or nursing.) Here are the products I used. PS - If you shop any of Colleen Rothschild's products, be sure to use code ERICA20 for 20% off!

Retinol Supreme Night Oil. This is equal parts regenerative and hydrating. You’re getting the highest concentration of stabilized retinol, as well as a lot of Vitamin C to reverse free radical + toxin damages.

Retinol Supreme Eye Serum. I'm convinced this is liquid gold. The retinol x Vitamin C work to brighten + soften the look of wrinkles around the eye area.

Sheer Renewal Cream. This is really hydrating, but it's oil-free, weightless, AND promotes new cell turnover, which is unique when it comes to moisturizers!

When to use retinol: Retinol is ONLY for nighttime! Because of how reactive of a molecule it is, it breaks down with sun exposure. So before bed only!

How to apply retinol: After washing your face + applying your eye cream, apply a pea-sized amount over your face. TIP: Make sure your skin is DRY before applying! Applying anything to damp skin (think: lotions, moisturizers, any other skincare product) helps it be more deeply absorbed, but that would /could be a bit too intense with retinol products.

Things to remember: - Retinol takes TIME. - Do not use while pregnant or breastfeeding. - Moisturize after applying retinol! - Skip the Clarisonic on nights you're using retinol. - If you start experiencing some light peeling or mild redness, this is NORMAL
