And 12 hours later, we’re outta the car – phew. Boyfriend and I just got home from a mid-cross country road trip, going from East Coast Philadelphia to the Midwestern Windy City, Chicago. I’m not even going to begin detailing our trip here – stay tuned this week for more of that.
But after a super long car ride, especially with another person, you learn a lot. After way too many pitstops at rest stop bathrooms, you learn even more.
In particular, the ins and outs of pampering whilst driving. Now, bear with me.
You’re driving for literally hours on end. You’ve got your jams blasting, you’re dressed comfy chic, and you’ve got some snacks and accessories to keep you company (courtesy of this right here). But you don’t want to look like you haven’t emerged into society for 10+ hours – you still want that “I was born like this” glamour that only comes from a shishying up now and again.
For those seemingly endless moments in rest stop bathrooms and rear view mirrors, you need…
1. Clinique’s City Block Sheer Shimmer oil-free daily face protector with SPF 15.
Add a little golden shine to keep you luminescent all trip long. Who says the bronze babe look is just for beachgoers? Fool ‘em all.
It’s sheer or tinted with color for a just-right punch. Mine is bubblegum pink and uber moisturizing, so it’s killing a few birds with one stone. Because you should always overachieve with lip products.
3. Bobby pins
Man oh man, these suckers are life savers, aren’t they? I use bobby pins slightly less than I use oxygen. And that’s perfectly alright.
4. Covergirl 1-kit shadow in Golden Sunrise
One of my pet peeves: creasing eye makeup. It really, really grinds my gears. But with a dab of primer, this beaut went strong for – literally – all day driving.
5. Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion body lotion
It’s infused with Moroccan Argan Oil. You know it’s gonna be a good time. Between the two of us, Boyfriend and I used up almost a whole tube of its sample size. Great. Stuff.
6. Secret travel-size, pear-scented deodorant
It’s pear-y good. HA. But really, this one goes without saying, especially for confined spaces, especially for 5+ hours in said confined spaces.
I also learned the hard way this time: get as organized a cosmetics bag for the road as possible. While you probably don’t need a whole cosmetics bag’s worth of stuff, keep your beauty essentials together for easy reaching. I spilled way too many purse loads onto rest stop bathroom counters. (Don’t tell my mom that one).
