‘Tis the season for creams and color – spring has sprung in my makeup bag, and I’ve switched things up to feel fresher + lighter in this season. Namely, that’s looked like swapping out heavier foundations for tinted SPF, matte powders for liquid blushes, going from flat mattes to glossier looks…I’ve even pulled back on highlight to really zero in on a poppy blush game and all-over glow, and it’s been fun to mix it up. 🙂 Here’s the lowdown of what I’ve been reaching for most lately…my “go-to” springy full face. Another post to come with a lighter, more natural five-minute flash makeup routine.
BUT FIRST, a few relevant codes so that you’re stocked to save some $$$ while adding to cart… 😉

- Prep – Tula Smoothing Primer, DIME Tinted Wonderscreen – I had just grabbed this Tula primer from my stash without thinking much of it – then I found myself on the last drop (coming soon to a Beauty Empties near you… 😉 ). It’s a skincare-first treatment primer with lots of good stuff in it to be smoothing, plumping, firming, AND brightening, while being a base to your makeup. I actually didn’t realize how many good-for-you skincare properties were in the tube until researching it further, so I’m impressed – and it’s a clean formula, AND my code works for 15% off (COMINGUPROSES), so claps all around. Then, I can’t rave about Tinted Wonderscreen enough. It’s a clean, mineral daily SPF that leaves NO white cast; beyond that, their newest iteration has a light tint, making it the perfect product for no-makeup summer days, sitting poolside, or beach days. Since it’s skincare FIRST, it’s actually got the correct amount of SPF inside that you actually need for real protection (unlike many makeup-first products that have SPF inside…the true amount of SPF is so minimal comparatively speaking!). 20% off at DIME with code THRIVE20!
- Foundation – Tarte Foundcealer (shade: light-medium neutral) I really, really like the application of this foundation – doesn’t hurt that it’s a pretty dang clean formula with built-in skincare, too. (Clearly my vibe – ha!). But I’m also soon transitioning to my Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint with SPF (shade: Ora), because that’s an even lighter formula that’s so, so beautiful for spring/summer when you want that light coverage with sun protection.
- Concealer – Tarte ShapeTape (shade: light neutral) for more full coverage!
- Brows – Kevyn Aucoin’s Brow Gel Pencil, but I’m not married to it. I also lovelovelove this IT Cosmetics pencil in Universal Taupe. Ideally, I’ll be getting my brows microbladed again this fall when I’m no longer pregnant, because I’m not the most confident gal with a brow pencil and need some permanent help to just take that step out of my makeup routine altogether – ha!
- Eyeshadow – This tartelette palette is so good for spring – also playing with this mini Dibs palette for neutral looks + travel. Reaching for pinkier tones + purples this time of year, too!
- Liners – Fake Awake on my water line, any liquid black liner or pen on my upper lid. I couldn’t even tell you exactly which one I’m currently using because the label has completely worn off – womp! But there were a handful in my collection, so I’m trying to go through them before buying any more. I just do a quick, half-ish cat eye most days where I’m doing full makeup (it’s not one of those cool sharp cat eyes because Lord knows I can’t get them even to save a life – so I just bring it to a point shortly after my eye ends).
- Mascara – This primer + this tubing mascara = lovelovelove. My favorite $5 mascara is also an easy go-to!
- Contour – Tarte’s Amazonian clay waterproof bronzer (shade: Park Avenue Princess); currently testing their liquid ShapeTape (shade: warm bronze), and this drugstore alternative. So far, I much prefer the ShapeTape bronzer, but I think it’s easy to look “muddy” if you don’t a.) get the right shade for your skintone and b.) blend blend BLEND. ALSO really liking the DIBS Desert Island Duos for a travel-friendly cream option – it blends nicely.
- Blush – ShapeTape liquid blush has been beautiful for a glowier, dewier blush, especially on days I’m not reaching for additional highlight. But what I’m really loveloveloving is layering it over a powder blush for an even deeper, pinkier pop. I’ve been using something lighter with subtle shimmer, or a favorite like Physicians Formula’s Butter Blush as a little underlayer, then putting a liquid blush on top for extra “pop.”
- Highlight – Physicians Formula butter highlight. Although I will say, I’ve been using highlight LESS lately and just using a more irridescent blush that I bring up a bit higher on my cheekbone.
- Setting – Iconic London Prep Set Glow. I loveloveLOVE this stuff – almost out of it, already repurchased. It’s a gorgeous glow that sets for all day wear. But it’s also got antioxidants and vitamins and some caffeine to be hydrating and good-for-you, too!
- Lips – The maracuja liner in Rosy Brown, a DIBS liner, or Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk for a classic everyday pinky neutral. I still stan this drugstore crayon for a longer-lasting matte that’s actually easy to apply correctly (+ quickly!) – as seen on CUR here. Alternatively, I grab a Juicy Lips for a glossier look (I kid you not, I’ve got 14 and counting in my collection – you can’t go wrong). Also loving DIME’s lip balm – and their new tinted lip balm! – as a clean, suuuuper hydrating daily balm that also works as a lip treatment.
AGAIN, just so ya don’t miss out…
