This summer has been electric, to say the least. Electric, thunderous…and super hot n’ humid. Demi Lovato says we’re cool for the summer, but I say we’re a *bit* more than glistening on the East Coast. #casual. I think I graduated from college and summertime just woke up from a nap and was rearin’ to go. I’m working in “the real world,” so it’s buh-bye to responsibility-free poolside vacations from school. Now, with the constant temperature shifts (100 outside, 60 in cold AC), I’m regularly propped in front of my office fan like this:
With paperweights holding down the desk fort, of course.
I’m *so* not a high maintenance gal, but when it comes to summer, I’ve been finding myself needing refreshment like there’s no tomorrow. On top of that, I’m constantly on the go and running around for one thing or another. From simply swapping a lip color to switching full head-to-toe looks on the fly, it can be hard to come out on the other side of a day not looking like the dictionary picture of “hot mess.” So, as I factor in the summer heat into my active lifestyle, here are a few refreshing solutions…

For humid hair…
Hands down one of the most frustrating seasonal demons: humidity. This summer has been *particularly* moist in PA, and it shows in my hair. There’s really no point in styling anything other than a ponytail, unless Texas debutante pouf is your cuppa tea. I’ve been loving for taming locks and for overall summer hair health (+ both smell amazeballs). Taming frizz ends up being a #1 priority since those flyaway buggers are the first to go as soon as your hair meets the wet outside air.
For hydrating…
The pink drink might be all the rage right now, but I’m moreso feelin’ red and orange. 😉 I think I’ve been dehydrated since June. Y’all, I kid you not. It’s HARD to stay hydrated when it’s hot as anything outside. I can do water and fruity variations, but I almost *always* forget to fill a water bottle ahead of time to take with me and can’t justify dropping $$$ on water when I’ve got perfectly good H2O in abundance at home. But, I’m super picky with any other beverage – I don’t typically find soft drinks particularly refreshing, and I’m left feeling heavier afterwards from the sugar overdose. Enter, Starbucks Refreshers® beverages. I was already a big fan, in seeing their new flavors at Walgreens, I couldn’t help but stock up! I grabbed the two new flavors: Black Cherry Limeade and Peach Passion Fruit. Both have coconut water in them, and b-vitamins for a natural energy boost…perfect for sweltering summer heat. They’re just so dang good and genuinely refreshing and light; it’s the kinda drink you’ll just have in your fridge on repeat to grab n’ go whenever for an on the go boost. J keeps asking to drink mine, so I need to hit Walgreens again to stock up once again. Ha! 😉

For a case of melting face…
The right beauty supplies/tools are *clutch*. Essentially, they’re for avoiding a case of melting face, where all of your makeup literally sweats and slides itself right off. I shared this routine as a summer must when it comes to staying matte and made up, and I’d add and to the list.
For snacking…
Heavy snacks in summer just don’t cut it when it comes to feeling *refreshed*. When I’m bebopping around town running errands and making things happen, I always need a light something in my purse in case the midday munchies hit (hint: they always do). So, while I’m at Walgreens grabbing my Starbucks Refreshers® revitalizing energy, I pick up a few light granola bars, too. They’re super simple and easy, AND a little bit of chocolate never hurt nobody either. 😉 Current personal favorite are the Quaker® Big Chewy Granola Bars – they’re like the all grown up version of the Chewy bars I grew up on, and they don’t leave you feeling bloated and gross!

Generally, one of the biggest refreshers in midsummer heat is preparation.
Sound silly?
Think about it.
How many times do you step outside into the hustle and bustle thinking you’ve “got this,” then halfway through your day (let’s be real, 4 minutes into the trek) you realize life would’ve been so. much. easier/cooler/refreshing if you had only brought _____? Real talk, I feel like that’s the current story of my life.
To make it easy on ya, remember the refreshing list the same way you remember money-ID-lip balm-keys-phone when going out.
- Hair
- Hunger
- Setting spray
- Starbucks
BOOM. 2 H’s and 2 S’s to make hothothot summers a bit more bearable. 😉

P.S. Right now if you buy 2 Starbucks Refreshers® beverages at Walgreens, you’ll get a FREE Quaker® Big Chewy Granola Bar. #yes
How do you stay refreshed when on the go in summer? And have you tried Starbucks Refreshers® drinks?
I’d lovelovelove to hear your own favorites and must-haves, because Lord knows it just keeps getting muggier in the Northeast! Plus, if you’ve grabbed a few Starbucks Refreshers® beverages yourself, what’d you think of the drink?
