Fall Skincare Routine (Morning AND Night!)

My skin has always been my biggest frustration point. I’ve always been oilier and acne-prone. But tackling oiliness too aggressively could lead to dryness, and it got to a point of being generally frustrated by the lack of balance! Like, can we just get it together for ONE WHOLE WEEK?!?! There would be the glorious day or two in conjunction with my time o’ the month where things would be so glowy and perfect, and then it would go the complete opposite direction. And then I’d be binge-watching Netflix with pizza and wine on my lap, and pizza on my face, too. Not cool.

SO, for all us chicas who do not have perfect skin, this post is fo’ you! Anytime my skin is lookin’ good, you can pretty much bet it’s because of all of the below. And I probably drank my water and took my vitamins that day. 😉 My skincare routine is one thing I’m never afraid to splurge on, either. Everyone who knows me knows I’m a bargain girl through and through. I love deals, I love saving money, I love getting the most bang for my buck, and I love spending less to get more.

Skincare is an exception. If there’s one thing I learned through the years, it’s that you only get one skin! Your skin is an organ, so it’s IMPERATIVE to take good care of it. You only get one. Spend money smartly on products and a skincare routine that’s worth it, and your skin will thank you when you’re 60. 😉 Grab yo’ coffee, grab yo’ snacks, grab yo’ wine…grab whatever ya need to hunker down for a good skin read, cos this baby is long and loaded with my morning, night, AND weekly skincare routine for fall.

MORNING:

– Tula is amazing, point blank period. This cleanser has a permanent spot in my skincare routine – I’ve already gone through two tubes of this stuff, cos it’s such a gentle, fresh-feeling cleanser. Tula is known for its probiotic technology, and I’ve been on an experimental skincare kick with various types of “technologies.” So far so good on the probiotic front. ICYMI, probiotics are “good bacteria.” In yo’ food, probiotics help with digestion. On yo’ face, they’re anti-inflammatory and anti-aging, helping with chronic skin conditions (think acne, rosacea, eczema) and improving overall glow. (Use code COMINGUPROSES to save 20% on !)

– This is a MUST for my skincare routine. As soon as I wash my face in the morning, whether it was in the shower or just over the sink, I spritz this light toner all over and follow up with moisturizer. It’s absolutely fantastic and really helps your skin feel firm and clean, especially if you’re oilier like me!

– For years, since I’ve always had oily skin, I used to think that I couldn’t/shouldn’t use moisturizer at all because it would make me more shiny and greasy. #wrong #fail #DoNotPassGo. NO. If you have oilier skin, it’s a reflection of what’s happening on the *inside* and your skin could actually be over-compensating for a general lack of moisture! Either way, this moisturizer has a tiny bit of salycylic acid in it, so if you’ve got a few blemishes you’re looking to banish, it does double shifts.

– This moisturizer is light and ever so tinted, loaded with anti-wrinkle properties and SPF. It’s my go-to on Saturday’s when J and I are just running errands or hanging around the house. Even if you don’t have makeup on, you should ALWAYS have SPF on, so this baby does the trick!

– I only recently got into serums, and Tula’s is bomb dot com status. Typically serums are more of a nighttime regimen, but this one feels light enough to wear during the day if you’re going au naturale, and it absorbs quickly and easily. I typically use either instead of or alongside of my Paula’s Choice moisturizer! (Use code ROSES20 to save 20% on !)

NIGHTTIME:

– Hello my name is Erica and I am a makeup wipe snob. Y’ALL. I feel like I’ve tried every wipe, cream, and oil under the sun when it comes to removing makeup – particularly, eye makeup. I’m picky. I don’t like the residue left behind by many oils, I can’t STAND if my eyes burn or water while removing makeup, and something about cold cream just freaks me out ever so slightly (even tho it def works). If a wipe is too dry and requires, like, 7 to get the job done, ain’t nobody got time for that. I recently tried these babies from an Asian skincare company and they are SO DANG PHENOM. If you follow me on Snapchat (erica_lig),  you already know. 😉 They’re just moist enough, so one wipe legit works for yo’ whole face. The brand uses seed and botanical extracts in their formulas to nurture and “respect” the skin, which is a popular philosophy in Asian skincare. No parabens, synthetic fragrance, synthetic dyes, mineral oils, alcohol, or phenoxyethanol. And they smell fantastic. AND they’re $7. #winning.

– GAME. CHANGER. ALERT. This is a *must* in my skincare routine. Let’s get real, folks. For a long time, I thought that just using my hands to wash my face was A-OK. Then I started using this toner and this gentle chemical exfoliant at night sometimes, and I realized that there should not be MAKEUP still coming off at the point of toning! Toning and exfoliants and all that good stuff comes *after* cleansing, not in place of! My cleansing was obviously lacking, which is v. bad when you have a full day’s worth o’ makeup, germs, sweat, etc on yo’ face. In the morning, I use this sponge in the shower. But every single night now, I’m addicted to this bad boy. Clarisonics are 100% worth it. The is so surprisingly gentle and just legitimately CLEANS! I typically go over my face multiple times just to ensure a good cleanse and because it feels so dang good on the skin. While using, I pause to rinse the brush head about 2-3 times, since a day’s worth of foundation and face makeup is always on it. This baby does the job right. Also makes for a great gift idea and/or stocking stuffer for any girlies on your list. 😉 (P.S is on major sale!)

– I swear I’ve never met an It Cosmetics product I didn’t like. For all my under-40 ladies in the house, we still gotta think about anti-aging products. This under eye cream feels really luscious on, which is important since your under eye area is very sensitive skin! This eye cream is meant to smooth, brighten, and depuff, is good for all skin types, and works especially to combat fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness…all that jazz that ain’t nobody got time for under the eye.

– This came in a recent package from 3B, which I would *highly* recommend signing up for, y’all. is an Asian skincare subscription box with products from Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. I knew *nothing* about Asian skincare until recently, but supposedly they’re about 30 years ahead of American skincare technology. SO, there’s that. The 3B box is $12/month (but use code ROSES at checkout to save $$$! 😉 ), and you can also shop full-size products in their brand spankin’ new online store! #BlessUp. And y’all know how much I love my subscription boxes. 😉  But this restorative cream. It’s rich and deeply nourishing, perfect for fall/winter months!

– This little black tube is skin-saving, in my opinion. It’s a light serum formulated to help battle stubborn imperfections, whether that’s dark spots from acne scarring or red bumps from any irritation. A total must to have on hand in your skincare arsenal.

– Along with probiotic technology, girlfriend loves her some hyaluronics. I mix a drop of this booster with whatever other night serum or moisturizer I’m using. It’s a must in my skincare routine. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant (which is a moisture-binding ingredient, according to le internet). It helps keep your skin looking plump and hydrated and young (HOLLAH). AND it’s a natural polysaccharide (a carb) in yo’ body.

Neogence Hyaluronic Acid Deeply Moisturizing Lotion – This is another goodie from my 3B haul, and it’s also golden. Because it’s meant to be a hyper-moisturizing product, it’s a bit freaky when you see it come out and apply more similarly to a toner – I use a cotton ball to dab on my face accordingly. It’s not like typical creamy moisturizers! So I pair it with the Paula’s Choice hyaluronic booster so I’ve got #AllTheHyaluronicAcids on my face. Neogence is a popular Taiwanese brand, and this gem helps with flaky, irritated, sensitive and acne prone skin. Hyaluronic acid and tornare together help keep your skin hydrated for up to 24 hours. #boom.

– Another Tula gem. Super duper hydrating and creamy for a really nourishing treatment. Light enough to wear for day, effective enough to use overnight! (Use code ROSES20 to save 20% on !)

WEEKLY:

– I’m such a mask freak now. I used to barely use ’em, and now I’m trying to add them to my skincare routine at least twice a week! (Note: for twice/week masks, make sure they’re for different things and that you’re being careful with end results). Picked this one up after seeing it on Snapchat over and over (Snapchat just speaks to me like that), and I couldn’t be happier I did. I hate when I put on a clay mask and don’t feel or see a difference  afterwards. If Imma run around my house scaring my cats and husband for a solid 15-20 minutes, I best see some stellar results afterwards. Ha! 😉 This L’Oreal clay mask is legit. It’s only $10 or so at the drugstore, and your skin feels brighter n’ tighter after use without overdrying.

– The Body Shop sent me the most *gorgeous* package recently with a few different masks to try, and I gotta say, I was so beyond impressed. This 100% vegan mask has bamboo charcoal, green tea leaves, and organic tea tree oil (which is an essential oil!), made without any parabens, paraffin, silicone, or mineral oil. It’s also got come Community Trade Ethiopian honey, Namibian marula oil, and Italian olive oil drizzled within too, so can we say #pampering?

– I had tried a few British Rose products before from TBS and loveloveloved the scent (it’s simply coming up roses… 😉 ). This mask is more relaxing (versus purifying or feeling like yo’ pores are getting sucked clean). Roses/rose oils are really good in skincare for its thousand and one properties; rose water/essence is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, has loads of antioxidants, and it’s also moisturizing, toning, and relaxing (roses are actually used in certain medicinal practices for calming!). This particular mask has essence from British hand-picked roses (does hand-picked make a difference? No clue, but doesn’t it sound fancy? HA!), Chilean rosehip oil, and Community Trade Mexican aloe vera. Just make sure you’re not allergic to roses before using!
