Can we talk about how cute this jumpsuit is?! While I always lovelovelove a cute skirt + top combo or swing dress for springtime, there is seriously no confidence boost like a kickass jumpsuit. Girlfriend, if you want to feel on top of the world, invest in a jumpsuit. Or five. And a few rompers, too, for the mores cutesy summery sister of le jumpsuit. But Erica, I don’t know how to wear a jumpsuit. Stylist Tip: Invest in a quality jumpsuit that’s versatile enough for day or night, and one that can wear many hats (ie: date night, interview, breezy spring day, errand running, etc). I love the brighter tangerine color of this one – a clutch Target find from last season – because it feels powerful, classic, and trendy. It’s a triple threat, it turns heads, it’s figure-flattering; it’s like the more stylish soul sister of a more business professional “power suit.” The power suit for fashionistas, amiright??

I get it, though.

Jumpsuits can be intimidating.

At least, bright orangeish ones can be. So when you’re tempted to pick up a jumpsuit and give it a go, but you’re afraid you “can’t pull it off” or “don’t know how the heck to wear it,” consider these tips on how to wear a jumpsuit (and feel good about it!).

Just buy the jumpsuit…then figure it out later. The same goes for job interviews – sometimes they say just get the job, and then worry about learning a few new skills and getting appropriate training materials after the fact. For many things in life that are worth your time, you won’t necessarily 100% get it or feel good about it right off the bat. The same applies to certain trends or more statement pieces in your wardrobe that aren’t comfort pieces like yoga pants and sweats. But as they say, nothing good happens in comfort zones. (Except really good Netflix binges + chillaxing, I know). Buy the jumpsuit…then let yourself learn how it fits and feels on your body and ease into the confidence to wear it proudly.
Pick one that accentuates flatteringly. Not all jumpsuits are created equal. A styling MUST (whether it’s a jumpsuit, dress, pants, or anything else in your wardrobe) is to always pick pieces that are actually flattering to *your* body type. You’re beautiful. Especially on days when you’re not feeling as beautiful as you really are (cos we all have those days!), an easy pickmeup comes from choosing to wear things that just compliment your favorite features. Choose jumpsuits accordingly! My tangerine number is great because the “waistband” – where the line separating the pants portion from the top – is happening is high enough to make my legs look a mile long. I mean, #yesplease. The pleats right below the waistband create lines leading right into my legs, literally drawing people’s eyes right. down. my. legs. IT’S LIKE STYLE SCIENCE, people! Accentuate your waist with a jumpsuit that cinches or ties right there. Accentuate your arms with a sleeveless number. Accentuate your bust and torso with pretty detailing up top, like lace, sheer cut-outs, beading, or pleats. Work for *your* bod.
Invest in a timeless jumpsuit, and save on a few trendier ones. A LBD is always a classic wardrobe staple, right? (Right!). Same goes for a LBJ – Little Black Jumpsuit, obvi. An LBJ goes a long way for fitting all of the above criteria (interview appropriate, date night ready, day time chic, the works), and it’ll always be in style. But make sure you pick up a few trendier jumpsuits, too, to rock in season! My tangerine one borders between classic (because of the solid color and great cut) and trendy (with the brightness – it’s not this year’s Pantone color, but it’s still chic!). But many prints are popular in certain seasons, so printed jumpsuits are better to grab cheaper and just wear when the print is big! Florals are obviously so in right now – although they seem to be in every spring, ha!
