Happy HUMP, friends! I know blog posts have been more hit-or-miss here lately – and for that, I apologize. This season of life has admittedly gotten the best of me in many ways, and I feel like the second I find a new groove, it’s shaken up. More thoughts on that to come, I’m sure. 😉 But before I jet off on a fun little getaway this weekend, I wanted to dump out my trash for ya with the latest round of beauty empties! Here are the 25+ latest products to bite the dust…(See past beauty empties here!)
NATIVE BODY WASH in TIE DYE VANILLA CUPCAKE
Sometimes you just walk into Target and Target tells you what you need. This was one of those needs. 😉 It was a limited edition launch from Native and sold me at first sniff – it truly smells just like a cupcake! Since it’s a clean, sulftate-free formula too, it was an easy purchase – and J ended up using it in our shower, too, because it was just fabulous.
MOROCCANOIL DRY SHAMPOO DARK TONES
Not a fan of this one. While it is formulated darker to not leave a white cast on brunette hair, it leaves behind a really chalky residue that would always end up on my hands if I touched my hair at all. Not a favorite. (But this one is!)
Not bad! I’d definitely repurchase + use again, although I always gravitate to my tried and true favorite dry shampoo.
DRYBAR TRIPLE SEC FINISHING SPRAY
I’ve been a fan of Triple Sec for years. It’s a lighter finishing spray that adds volume + texture, and it does a great job giving you that tousled, cute bedhead look. What I did NOT know is that now you can choose you own scent of it – I think I had the original formula, whichever scent that is. While I have quite a few favorite texture/volume sprays, this one is in my top three (this is my favorite!)
DOVE SOOTHING CARE NOURISHING BODY WASH
Dove body washes are always a favorite of mine, especially since they’re now sulfate-free and really gentle formulas, great for sensitive skin. They have a subtle, comforting scent and just feel really fabulous on my loofah. I have two others in our shower right now!
DOVE ADVANCED CARE SHEA BUTTER DEODORANT/ANTIPERSPIRANT
No real complaints here – although I’m normally a Secret girl. But, lately I’ve been trying to slowly but surely detox my underarms and switch to “clean” deodorants (I like this one so far and am trying this one next!).
ELF BOUNCE BACK JELLY CLEANSER
While it’s not my all time favorite face cleanser, for only 6 bucks, it’s a great option if you’re on a budget.
CAVIAR ANTI-AGING REPLENSHING MOISTURE CC CREAM LEAVE-IN
Really liked this stuff as a leave-in treatment on wash day – it’s formulated cleanly to add moisture and smoothness, manageability and shine, and anti-breakage. It’s also formulated to reinfuse your hair with nutrients lost in aging, which I can’t say I’ve noticed in products before, so I appreciate that; it also has Omega-3s, proteins, minerals, and antioxidants. Definitely made my hair easier to heat style after air drying, and is something I would repurchase in the future.
URBAN ECO WARATAH ESSENCE LOTION
I got this as a Christmas gift and literally JUST learned that I apparently use it completely incorrectly. HA. I used this as a BODY lotion and apparently it’s a face lotion. Which makes much more sense, because when I was applying it on my body I kept thinking WOW, this is a super lightweight moisturizer. It is so different from some of the best body butters I’ve used for years, but it was noticeably hydrating and fast absorbing, and I went through the bottle pretty quickly (probably because I was using so much comparatively to what you’d use on just your face – ha!). It’s got lots of good ingredients inside, which I expect from Korean skincare: telopea for elasticity maintenance and deep hydration, niacinamide, ceramide, adenosine, grape seed oil for moisturization and reduction of inflammation and redness, etc.
ESSENCE VOLUME BOOSTER LASH PRIMER
I’m such a big fan of this Essence mascara, so I figured I’d give the accompanying primer a go – and it’s great. I can’t NOT use a lash primer at this point, and I look for one that helps my mascara last longer with more volume, less clumps, etc. Will repurchase!
KERASTASE CHRONOLOGISTE SHAMPOO
PHYSICIANS FORMULA 24 KARAT GOLD COLLAGEN MOISTURIZER
Also wasn’t a big fan of this stuff – it just didn’t really feel like it was doing anything for my skin that my favorite daytime or nighttime moisturizers don’t do. Especially since I have multiple favorites that are more multi-purposed beyond just hydrating (like this one – my code COMINGUPROSES will work on it!), I’ll be sticking with those.
TULA PROTECT + GLOW GEL SUNSCREEN
I’ved liked this stuff since it first launched – it’s got SPF 30, blue light + pollution protection, and is a non-pore-clogging formula with probiotic extracts, pineapple, + papaya. Doesn’t leave a white cast, and isn’t greasy. It does leave you with a pretty glow, too, that works under makeup or by itself.
I’d recommend supersizing it to save $16 and get 2x the product. (Tula code is COMINGUPROSES)
DERMALOGICA SMART RESPONSE SERUM
Scientifically, this stuff confuses me. It claims to be able to “sense” your skin and respond differently depending on your skin’s needs…but the ingredients of the product are unchanging, so it wouldn’t make sense that it’s somehow changing what it’s doing on different days of the week. I get (+ like) that it’s multi-purposed in combatting a few different things, but I think it’s marketed in a bit of a manipulative way to do something that it doesn’t.
PHYSICIANS FORMULA SPOTLIGHT PRIMER
I actually really liked this primer – it’s illuminating and creates a really dewy, glowy base for under makeup. But beyond that, it’s got antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients inside, as well as “blurring agents” and “filtering pearls” to help make your complexion appear more radiant overall, too.
SOLD DE JANEIRO BRAZILIAN BUM BUM CREAM
This cult-classic favorite is great – but save your dollars and get this drugstore butter instead. It’s basically EXACTLY THE SAME – down to the smell, ingredients, firming properties, the works, for waaaaay less money and a bigger tub. Bless up. The Tropic Glow one is one of my all time favorite body butters – highly, highly recommend!
TULA SIGNATURE GLOW REFRESHING BRIGHTENING FACE MIST
I’ve always been a big face mist girl. There’s just something that feels really powerful + productive when you’re spritizing good ingredients on your face all day long, and I’m a fan. This one from Tula was made to hydrate, yes, but also to brighten up duller skin and protect again blue light and pollutant damage. It’s got probiotic extracts inside, strawberry and kiwi fruit water, and hyaluronic acid, and no oil or alcohol. Great option to spritz on over makeup throughout the day for a quick refresh + ongoing protection! (Tula code COMINGUPROSES will work on it, too!)
PHYTO PARIS PHYTOKERATIN REPAIRING THERMAL PROTECTING SPRAY
What’s available now from the brand seems like an updated bottle/formula than what I had, but all in all, I was impressed. Would I spend nearly $30 again on a heat protection spray? Probably not – there are decent ones at the drugstore, or I use my favorite Living Proof finishing spray WITH heat protection up to 410 degrees as a two-in-one with light hold (and a bigger bottle).
SKINCEUTICALS RENEW OVERNIGHT OILY NIGHTTIME SKIN REFINING MOISTURIZER
What I lovelovelove about this stuff is the hydroxy acid blend inside, which helps to gently exfoliate while simultaneously hydrating your skin overnight. What I didn’t lovelovelove was how runny the formula was for me (not sure if it was just verging on expired, or if they’re all like this?), and it does have a bit of a stronger smell when it compares to face moisturizers.
PHYSICIANS FORMULA EYE BOOSTER SLIM BROW PENCIL
Great drugstore eyebrow pencil – the taupe is a pretty universally flattering color, and I very much need a spooly on the ends of my pencils – so this one was appreciated.
NARS ORGASM ILLUMINATOR
Good thing this seems to be discontinued – it was not good. At least, mine wasn’t, hence it not even being emptied – I just couldn’t do it. It would end up pretty patchy on my cheeks and didn’t sit well with other makeup. I had had high hopes that it would be a great option for a pinched-cheek glow in summertime, but…nada.
TULA SENSITIVE SKIN TREATMENT DROPS
ALL the Tula empties today apparently – ha! I’ve been incorporating a lot more “soothing” products into my skincare routines since our skin goes through the ringer on the reg, from sun to blue light to pollution and changes in temperature – it can be a lot. This was a nice calming treatment serum with Vitamin B, ginger, aloe, cucumber, and oats, and of course, probiotic extracts. It does leave your skin feeling more resilient, and it’s formulated to be non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, fragrance free, and safe for sensitive skin.
NEUTROGENA NOURISHING BROW PENCIL
This was a fine brow pencil, but the shade was too dark for my face – I would try “soft brown” in the future or stick to brow pencils that are more of a “universal taupe” kinda hue.
LANEIGE LIP SLEEPING MASK in BERRY
THE VERY BEST LIP TREATMENT EVER. I swear by this stuff – and now J is hooked on it, too! It’s a FABULOUS overnight treatment, and the only lip mask I’ve tried that actually leaves your lips noticeably softer + healthier upon waking up. No dryness, no chapping…it really works wonders while you sleep. This is also the *best* price I’ve ever seen on it (ever), so if you’ve been on the fence about trying, get off it and give it a go!
