Um…what a month. The fact that the 4th of freaking July is next week simply BLOWS my mind. This month was nutty on so many levels, with so many high’s + low’s. Olivia’s tube came out (yay!) – some residual drama carried on with a potential fourth swallow study (boo). Purrcy is taking a liking to Olivia and is turning out to be her little buddy, letting her pet (meaning, grab) his tail and everything (yay!) – Moose got unexpectedly deathly ill again (boo). One of my best friend’s is about to have a baby, and I got to fly to surprise her at her baby shower across the country (yay!) – another one of my best friends had a miscarriage (boo). I got a new hair look for summer (yay!) – a freak accident happened at the salon and hair dye ended up on my Gucci bag (boo). A big win on a secret project I’ve got in the works (yay!) – a big setback on the same project (boo). So many flip-flopping feels in the same breath – so I’m ready for a new month. You?
Here’s some Cool Sh*t I Loveloveloved this month:
The second I tried on this dress, I knew I wouldn’t be taking it off. And sure enough, it’s been on repeat all month long! I don’t even think I can do it adequate justice, explaining to you guys just how fabulous it is. We’ll break this down into three “f’s” and three “p’s”.
First off, the fabric. Super breezy, light, and perfect for summer – it’s not too tight in any area, so it won’t pool sweat, nor does it feel gross at your pits. I mean…you know the feeling, and it ain’t cute.
Second, the fit. Light gathering at the waist – just enough to give you some shape without being too much where it collects sweat, per our above point.
Third, the front. The buttons. Such a simple, cute detail that breaks up the pattern just enough and keeps things casual. Makes for easy wear – also makes it breastfeeding friendly, for any nursing mamas in da house!
Fourth, the print. Leopard. Need I say more?
Fifth, the pockets. It has pockets!!! Two big whoppin’ pockets, at that.
Sixth, the price. Under $22, and on Prime. I MEAN COME FREAKING ON, PEOPLE.
If this isn’t in your Amazon cart by now, I’ve completely failed you as your friendly neighborhood blogger. 😉
I KNOW, I KNOW, everyone and their mom on your Instagram feed raves about Tula. But…it’s for good reason. You know I’ve shared quite a few Tula favorites in the past, but one of their latest product launches just takes the cake in my book, and I couldn’t NOT include it as a monthly favorite because, well, it is one.
Enter, their brand spankin’ new So Polished exfoliating sugar scrub.
This ain’t your ordinary sugar scrub, my friends. Nosirree.
It’s got probiotics per usual (all of Tula’s products have probiotics in them!), sugar – a natural exfoliant that dissolves in water so you can’t overscrub! – and then also fruit enzymes from papaya + pineapple for light chemical exfoliation.
My favorite thing about this scrub is the fact that it’s not a chunky grittiness like many sugar scrubs are, so it works even on the most sensitive of skins. It literally melts into your skin when you apply with warm water, and I’ve never used anything like that. So, it’s impossible to over-exfoliate with it!
Bonus points for smelling straight up like summertime (pineapple coconut bliss, to be exact).
Word on the street was always that Buxom’s plumping gloss was where it’s at, so when I was in NYC with my brother this past month, I figured I’d take one for the team and test it out. 😉 And of course, they had a shade NAMED ERICA (!!!), so I’d say that’s fate if there were ever such a thing.
Turns out, I lovelovelove.
It’s got a light tingling sensation when you put it on (the plumping at work) via its own unique peptide complex to volumize, and it’s got vitamins A + E for moisture. But it’s also got a nice sheen that lasts a few hours. And no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates!
You guys, it’s time…I need to get back in shape. I’m embarassed to admit that it had been a hot sec since my last workout – specifically, since around the first trimester of my pregnancy with Liv. So, like, a year ago. Womp. Lately it’s been affecting me more in more recognizable ways, like feeling weak carrying Olivia’s carseat around, winded running up and down stairs too much, or a general lack of confidence in noticing things that just aren’t as strong as they used to be.
Granted, I’ve been giving myself grace. My body went through *ahem* trauma. So I wasn’t in any sorta rush to get back in the game, or carring any unreasonable expectations of becoming a bikini bodybuilder. But…I gave myself a bit TOO much grace. And where I used to be able to run 3-6 miles a day in my high school varsity cross country + track running days, now 5 minutes on the bike had me feelin’ it. No bueno, yo.
The good thing: this bike is just as good as any high-tech, expensive bike. My parents are both big cyclers and have a $1,000+ bike that they invested in years ago in their basement for daily use. This one? Around $300 on Amazon. It’s SO sturdy, and legit feels like a stationary bike you’d be on at the gym.
5.) Start Today Journal
This is Rachel Hollis’ journal brain child, meant for daily journaling on 10 goals you’ll be making a reality. The idea is to write out these 10 “truths” about future you, so that it effectively sets the tone for your day by setting them top of mind, allowing you to design the rest of the day accordingly. Example: “I am a New York Times Bestselling Author,” or “I am an exceptional wife and mother.” Using those two as examples, writing them out daily might mean that I’m more inclined to schedule in regular writing time on my schedule, or look into what it takes to write a successful book. The latter example might mean I step up to think ahead of how I can better serve my husband or baby – howI can be there better or show up stronger to be the most loving, supportive partner and mom I can be. It’s not “woo woo” at all – it really just helps me keep certaihings at the forefront of my brain, so that they influence the direction of the rest of my day.
If I started my morning in prayer + journaling out some big goals and where I envision myself in five, ten years – it makes it prettttty darn difficult to put aside something important that will get me to those goals for, say, YouTube beauty tutorials or a Netflix binge. Keeps everything in perspective a bit better, I think!
(Turns out it’s sold out right now, but might come back in stock soon, so I’ll keep ya posted!)
This was a fate-driven find; while in NYC with my brother (see #8), we stumbled upon a fun little street festival happening downtown near the theater district. We roamed around after lunch, and I found the cutest little jewelry shop set-up. The girl and I got to talking, and turns out, she’s from literally 30 minutes from me! So I bought this bracelet and have been obsessed ever since. I had been on the hunt for a few more daintier pieces; especially when it comes to bracelets, since I’m at my computer typing for most of a day, I can’t stand things clunking around of interfering with the workflow. Ain’t nobody got time.
This bracelet is so minimalistic, but pretty. I really like the toggle detail for adjusting to your wrist size, too, since I’ve got smaller wrists. Here’s the girl’s whole shop in case you wanna check it out!
WOW WOW WOW if this isn’t a saving grace, I don’t know what is. Our neighbor handed us down this jumper, and I swear every new mama needs this on her registry. With Olivia being more mobile now, it’s literally lifesaving when I need to put her down for a hot sec without worrying about her freaking out or wandering off. It keeps her entertained, but best of all, she loveloveLOVES jumping in it. Girlfriend has got legs, let me tell you, so she could hop around for hours if we let her. It’s got all sorta sensory engagements, and it’s just been really perfect for this age (Liv is 8 months).
8.) The Lion King on Broadway
NAAAAAANTS INGONYAAAMA BAGITHI BABA. My “little” brother took me to Broadway for my birthday, so this past month we finally saw The Lion King. Hadn’t seen it before. Aaaaand WOW.
Everyone, drop what you’re doing, and go see it.
I mean, OK, not actually feasible. But save your cents until you can make it happen for your next birthday, anniversary, treat yo’self day, etc. WHAT A SHOW. I’m a total theater freak anyways, but this was SUCH a great performance.
The opening number gave the entire room goosebumps – I don’t think I had ever seen or heard such intense cheering right after an opening number before. I was on the litearl edge of my seat, jaw dropped watching. My brother and I BOTH cried. After the opening number. Such an insanely moving work of creative masterpiece. 100% recommend.
This is a new-to-me product that I’ve seen raved about online in the past, so it was due time I added to my collection to test out. So far, I lovelovelove, especially for summer. It’s unique because it’s a sunscreen, yes, but it also acts as a makeup primer – and a good one, at that. So you get a non-greasy facial sunscreen (yay!) with a primer-like consistency – win win! It’s SPF 40, weightless, scentless, and has red algae inside to be skin-soothing (and – fun fact – also helps protect against blue light!). You guys know I’m a big fan of Olay Regenerist Whips with SPF and that also works as a makeup primer – this is just a slightly stronger SPF, which I sometimes prefer for the middle of summer!
These bad boys have been on repeat since they arrived! I picked up these little slip-on’s because I’ve never seen ones with floral applique detailing like it before, and I lovelovelove. Enough to make a statement while still being subtle! And it’s a girlier take on a pretty casual, comfy style, which I appreciate wholeheartedly. They’re only sold online and you will not believe the price!!!
Easy to dress up or down – they work with everything from a more feminine midi dress, to jean cutoffs and a tee. I’ve worn them every day for the past week alone. 100% worth every penny!
