GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!

SURPRISE! Baby G is a baby girl! We are SO STOKED + so happy to finally tell you! This gender reveal has been a loooooong time comin’. 🙂 Even tho we didn’t find out until the 20 week mark, J + I both just knew it was a girl. We’d called it from the start! My symptoms have actually been predominantly “boy,” based on all of the different crazy wivestales that are floating around the web (sharing some of those down below!), so we were really excited to confirm that both of our parental intuitions are SO FAR SO GOOD. Ha! 😉

I just felt like Jamie would be the *ultimate* girl dad, so it was so dang easy picturing him in that role. I’m 100% positive she’ll be a total daddy’s girl. I mean, her daddy rocks. So yeah. 🙂 And I can’t wait to have a little mini me! Every time I think about it I get all teary-eyed, because I think of how close my mom and I are and how close she is with her mom, and how I pray to the sweet Lord baby Jesus that she thinks I’m cool enough to be that close to someday, too. And it’s awesome.

OK STORYTIME:

At our 20-week appointment, we went into the Ultrasound room and our tech, Karen, immediately asked, “So do you want to know the gender?” To which I replied, “Karen, what’s your success rate with these?” We had just heard a few “horror stories” from friends who were told not once, not twice, but THREE times the supposed gender of the baby…only for it to be born the opposite. Totally not an atrocity in the grand scheme of life at ALL, but definitely a loop to be thrown if you’ve already planned (+ registered…) for one gender!

Now, Karen was a late-60’s-ish ultrasound tech who clearly meant business.

She looked us square on and deadpan replied: “100%.”

OK KAREN.

Two seconds later, “It’s a girl!”

So of course, me playing 52 questions (doctors love me…): “So how do you know?”

And she did some zooming in on the grey blobs of the ultrasound to draw a few lines and say, “Because that’s a labia.”

OK KAREN.

“And what would it be if it were a boy instead?”

Now y’all, I’m not stupid. Obviously I know what makes boys and girl anatomically different. I was moreso asking in terms of what it would LOOK like on the screen, since she was making marks on the screen of these faint AF body parts, calling them “amniotic this and that” and the biparietal diameter and femur lengths and it all just looked like swirls to this girl over here.

But Karen was feelin’ sassy that morning.

“…A penis.”

OK KAREN. THANKS A LOT, KAREN.

If that baby comes out with a penis, Karen and I are gonna have WORDS. 😉

Based on some of the wivestales that we ran through at our gender reveal party with family/friends, we were pretty split down the middle with Boy v. Girl. Granted, they’re wivestales for a reason…they’re basically 50/50 shots in the dark. Based on the Chinese Calendar, her heartbeat at doctor’s visits, whether or not I had headaches, my intuition, + my nose shape, it was a girl. But based on my morning sickness (or lack thereof), dad’s weight gain (or lack thereof), carrying position, the side I sleep on, my belly shape, + weird dreams, it was a boy. So we were a tossup!

But now, the secret’s out.

It’s a girl. 🙂

Thankyou all again for being a part of this journey with us – we’ve been so overwhelmed + overjoyed at all of the amazing, sweet feedback from all of ya on pretty much #AllTheThings having to do with Baby G, so I hope she can sense what a badass community she’s coming into at Coming Up Roses!
