Our favorite family activity since last fall has been our daily walks together to soak up some sun. Typically that involves taking Olivia out in her pink convertible wagon (which she loveloveLOVES) and going through our cul-de-sac to a neighboring one, doing a lap around the neighborhood, and ending at the local park for some swing time for Liv (another favorite pasttime).
Lately, that’s been edited a bit because of everything going on in the world, because of course we don’t want to be around any other people.
But we’ve still been getting some fresh air to regroup and stay sane after a day cooped up indoors – and with two work-at-home parents and a toddler, it’s warmly welcomed for all. Of course, it’s worth noting that anytime we’re outdoors we are NOT around other people or touching ANYTHING – luckily, every human we’ve ever seen while on our afternoon walks has been on the same page when it comes to social distancing, and we all cross to opposite sides of the street if/when any other soul is in sight.
Honestly, it’s been our collective saving grace.
It’s been our sacred family time to get just breaaaathe after the day, see sunshine, and enjoy natural beauty since we’ve gotten to see the trees bloom and progress every day. It’s also been sacred self-care time for me, and for J, too! Our walk is our time to catch each other up on ours days working, talk about what’s happening in the world or share a funny thing we saw online, and hang out with Liv while she gets to see birds and trees and flowers and puppy dogs in a world that feels so much bigger + better + brighter to her right about now than to us. It’s refreshing in every sense of the word, and it’s literally sacrosanct in our daily routines right now!
Besides good walking shoes + comfy clothes (a must, of course), I’ve also been testing out some new SPF during this time! I think a lot of folks still mistakenly think SPF is just a thing for the beach. If anything, maybe this time of not being able to go to the beach (or anywhere for that matter, besides getting some fresh air around your own neighborhood not around any other people) can teach us a lesson: SPF isn’t just for the beach, or days when you know you’ll be having more fun in the sun than usual.
SPF is for always.
Whether you’re outside for ten hours or ten minutes, you can still get a sunburn – and even if you don’t see a red, itchy “burn,” UV rays can still do a number on your skin, going so far as setting the stage for melanoma (aka skin cancer) in the future. They’ll also lead to fine lines + wrinkles sooner, hyperpigmentation (aka sun spots), etc…stuff ain’t nobody got time for when it’s otherwise SO SIMPLE to just use SPF.
And really, using SPF is vital self-care, too! More important than any bubble bath or face mask at the end of the day.
Self-care is ultimately just taking care of yourself. Why don’t you touch a hot stove today? Because you know it will burn and that wouldn’t be taking care of yourself. So why wouldn’t you wear SPF every day? Really, it’s the best, truest form of self-care.
You’ve heard me talk a LOT by now about my lovelovelove for Olay Whips. I’ve been using it for over two years now, and it’s a moisturizer I find myself re-purchasing anytime I run out (which happened again a few weeks ago, which you saw on my Instastories!).
I’ve shared how hydrating Whips is without being heavy or greasy (bless up), and I’ve also talked about how it even works as a makeup primer – important, especially since some jars of Whips have SPF inside, which should be in your everyday routine regardless of whether or not you think you’ll be seeing sunshine.
Luckily, Olay just launched a brand spankin’ new Olay Regenerist Whips – this time with SPF 40 inside, so I’m so stoked to partner with them to share it with YOU first!
I lovelovelove that it’s a heavy-hitting SPF without the “weight” that many sunscreens have. The formula is just as light + airy as the original Whips that I’ve used + shared + loveloveloved for years now, still being fast to absorb and totally breathable on your skin. It’s got an advanced Amino-Peptide Complex inside so that besides providing very necessary protection against harmful UV rays. It’s also actively hydrating your skin, improving elasticity, and firming, too! And it’s also got this SolaSheer Technology inside for moisturizing + nourishing that keeps things non-greasy and 100% oil-free, so you won’t feel slick or sticky…because ain’t nobody got time. Also super blendable with no residue, so I apply before starting my makeup routine to keep protected + hydrated all day long. And ALSO…smells incredible. I know you are NOT supposed to choose your skin/hair/beauty products on scent, but you won’t be disappointed – ha!
Olay Renerist Whips has been in my regular skincare routine since 2017 and is a definite drugstore favorite, so I’m just SO stoked that they’ve launched the same beloveloveloved formula with added SPF. Big fan over here, peeps…big, big fan. 🙂
Are you using SPF every single day yet in your skincare routine? Have you tried the new Olay Regenerist Whips with SPF40 yet?
Let me know if/when you do – I can’t wait to hear what you think!
