Day to Night with the Physicians Formula 80th Anniversary Collection

I think it’s probably safe to say that by now, y’all know a few things about me. 1.) I lovelovelove a good deal. 2.) I lovelovelove when things are worth the $$$. 3.) I lovelovelove when I can get major bang for my buck. When it comes to beauty, I’m no guru, but I can definitely tell if/when something is a.) worth it, and b.) versatile enough to be a worthwhile addition to the everygirl’s makeup bag. In the real world, when you’ve got – oh, I dunno – bills to pay, the worst feeling is splurging on luxurious, high end beauty products that end up feeling…less than luxurious. The BEST feeling is finding an actually affordable brand that’s trustworthy across the board. I’m definitely a high-low kinda gal; there’s nothing I lovelovelove more than pairing a spendier splurge with a less expensive favorite. But when I can score an entire look – or, an entire face – for less than some girl’s pay for one piece or one product…that’s a total win. Today, I’m so happy to be partnering with Physicians Formula to celebrate the launch of their 80th Anniversary Collection.

I’ve always thought of Physicians Formula as a drugstore enigma. They were always there, but beyond their cult classics (Butter Bronzer, anyone?), they weren’t the brand I saw spread all over magazine ads or repped by celebrities on TV. But holy moly, do they pack a punch.

Their 80th Anniversary Collection is significant for a few reasons:

  1. It’s celebrating 80 friggin’ years. In today’s business landscape, lasting that long is a hella long time. Its founder, Dr. Crandall, created PF for his wife’s sensitive skin. It was one of the first beauty brands to develop hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, + dermatologist-tested makeup sans over 150+ known irritants. (Fun fact: Physician’s Formula is one of the ONLY brands of makeup that my aunt can wear that doesn’t irritate her sensitive skin – so it works!)
  2. It signifies the introduction of a few new products to Physicians Formula’s product repertoire: highlight + lipstick (!!!).
  3. It’s only available for a limited time (so grab yours, like, yesterday).

SO, to celebrate 80 years, I’m sharing how I used the collection for both a day and night look. If there’s one thing I lovelovelove with beauty products, it’s when they’re so stinkin’ versatile that I can make it work any day of the week, any time. Whether it’s a light look that’s barely there or an all-out glam night out, I need a collection to run the gamut for me. So, I’m wearing the Physicians Formula 80th Anniversary Collection for a pretty daytime look, and transitioning to a more sultry nighttime face. For both looks, I’m wearing the Le Velvet Foundation, which has been reformulated with ZERO parabens of any kind. It’s super creamy + buildable, water resistant, + SPF 15.

Fun fact: It’s waaaaay better for your foundation to have SPF in it than your moisturizer. Actually, it can be *bad* for your moisturizer to have it! Reason being, your moisturizer is meant to sink into your skin, but SPF is NOT meant to sink in – it’s meant to sit on top as a protective layer. So, it can be a bit damaging if it’s inside versus outside the epidermis. In your foundation/makeup instead of moisturizer, it’s able to sit on top like it’s designed, no problemo.

The Le Velvet Foundation is hypoallergenic + fragrance-free, paraben + gluten-free, cruelty-free, non-comedogenic to not clog pore, + dermatologist tested.

For day, I’m using the Classic Nudes Eyeshadow Quad to create a light neutral eye. Both eye quads are hypoallergenic + fragrance-free, paraben + gluten-free, cruelty-free, oil-free (hollah for us oily girls – no creasing!) + dermatologist tested. I used the lighter brown shade in my crease and the pretty shimmery champagne on my lid.

Since I went more neutral on my eyes, I paired with a beautiful berry lip. This girl loveloveloves her lippies, and berry is right up my alley for everyday wear. It’s a shade, too, that’s pretty much universally flattering on any skin tone. These Hypoallergenic Lipsticks are beautifully pigmented + SUPER creamy (they feel like a glossy balm). I’m wearing Berry for day and Nude for night, but they also come in Coral + Red. The Red is a true classic Red, and the Coral is actually WAY prettier than I expected…it’s more nude-y than orange, I think, so it’s a GORGEOUS everyday shade! I’d honestly recommend every single lipstick shade as an addition to every girl’s makeup bag.

Physicians Formula doesn’t test on animals, so Purrcy approves. 😉

For night, I wanted to do something a bit different than my norm/go-to’s. So, I opted to smoke it out on my eyes with a more neutral lip, using the Smoky Plums Quad and Nude lipstick. I typically stray away from smoky eyes cos I usually just end up looking like I gave myself a black eye (which has actually happened before in my life, btw…long story 😉 ). I’m no beauty guru, so perfecting a smoked-out bombshell look that didn’t resemble a bruise was always more daunting than a bolder swipe of lipstick to make a statement. For this look, I put the darker brown in my crease, the dark plum in my outer corner, and the shimmery lilac on my inner lid.

The darker statement eye pairs best with a neutral lip, so Nude it was. These lippies have the same good-for-ya features as the other products: hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, paraben + gluten free, cruelty-free, oil-free, + dermatologist tested. They’re also formulated with Vitamin E for a really creamy, satin finish.

Y’all know I’m all about a highlight on fleek. PF’s new highlighter is the Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls, and it. is. bombdotcom. It’s actually formualted to protect against free radicals, and it’s packed with the same punch of goodness as all of Physicians Formula’s other products: hypoallergenic + fragrance-free, paraben + gluten-free, cruelty-free, oil-free, + dermatologist tested. Typically, I gravitate towards more golden highlights, so I wasn’t expecting the pop o’ pearl that this highlight brings. But…I lovelovelove it. I think it’s such a beautiful complement to cooler-undertoned skin and just really brings a fun Tin Man-esque pop. I’m into it.
