Happy HUMP. ‘Tis the season…spring blossoms and spring makeup are in full bloom! I’ve been lucky enough to get to test quite a few launches for CUR, so I couldn’t not do a post like this sharing some of my favorites. There’s just something about spring makeup that’s so stinkin’ fun, especially since everything gets a little brighter, cheerier, + more colorful coming outta winter full force. This was originally going to be my top 5 new spring makeup products, but then I ended up finding “this or that” sorta options for each category – typically, something from the drugstore, and then something a little more “high end” to #TreatYoself. SO…it’s really more like 10. Sorry not sorry, the more the merrier. 😉
First thing’s first: mascara and brows are just for always. Forgetting to do one or the other is like forgetting to put on underwear or brush your teeth – it just can’t happen.
For mascara, I’ve been loveloveloving Lancome’s Hypnose Drama lately, but my go-to’s are typically It Cosmetic’s Superhero Mascara or the drugstore almost-dupe of it, Covergirl’s Supersizer mascara. All are good options for bolder, thicker, longer lashes.
For brows, my current favorite is Physician Formula’s Brow Last; it’s a tinted gel that applies really easily, with a spooly at the end for even application + coverage. The tint is perfect for me tho, I’ve found, which is suuuuper important. I typically need brow color that’s actually lighter than my actual brow hair, since I’m so fair and my eyes/hair/brows are all much darker. But this stuff is cool because you apply the gel-like color first, then just brush it through with the spooly to ensure everything is even stevens. Super simple, and not easy to overdue as much as using a brow pencil!
FAVORITE SPRING MAKEUP – HIGHLIGHT
Lancome’s Dual Finish has been a Thing I Love for awhile now – it’s such a gorgeous, luminous highlight, and I lovelovelove the rose gold! It comes in 5 shades total. Suuuuuper buildable powder highlight, which is A+ for that highlight on fleek.
And Physicians Formula Butter Highlighters (heck, Butter anything) are also no stranger to these rosy parts. They’re different than any other highlight I’ve tried since they’re this creamy formula instead of a powder, but they pack a serious punch.
FAVORITE SPRING MAKEUP – LIP
The new Urban lipgloss line is out. of. this. world. They’re super glossy without being too runny OR too sticky (know the feeling? ha!). The range has a fair share of both pigmented and more sheet colors. They’re even minty fresh! At $20 a pop they’re a bit pricier than many other lipglosses, but I think they’re 100% worth the #TreatYoSelf. 😉 Personal favorite shades so far are Backtalk for an everyday neutral, Snitch for a springy coral (as seen in yesterday’s post), Obsessed for a more sheer gloss, Savage for a pop o’ pink, + TBD on more faves since I’m sure they are a-comin’. 😉
A good gloss that’s new at the drugstore is Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Lip Shine, which you might’ve seen here or here on the ‘gram! These are more sheer, but they’re packed with hyaluronic acid (one of my fave ingredients) for a serious splash of hydration. They last a loooooong time on your lips, so I think they’re a good altnerative to wearing something like balm or chapstick if you want a shinier, dressier lip look while still getting moisture. (For a non-gloss alternative, try Covergirl’s Melting Pot Gel Liquid Lipstick in Evan-gel-ical).
FAVORITE SPRING MAKEUP – FACE
It Cosmetics CC+ Cream
This CC+ Cream has been a personal favorite for years, and it’s been a favorite of the rest of the world for seemingly that long, too! It’s just bombdotcom. It’s formulated to be anti-aging since it’s infused with a literal anti-aging serum, and it’s got SPF 50 (bless up). Also contains zero parabens, phthalates, or any other crap. And and aaaaaand it’s full coverage! WOO! Which is a bit surprising for being a CC+ cream – another reason why this ish is just a winner.
FAVORITE SPRING MAKEUP – BLUSH
Spring has sprung (supposedly, at least…still waiting on the weatherman to get up to speed 😉 ) – time for a punchy flush! Luminoso is a beauuuuuuutiful, more subtle shade that’s a bit warmer toned. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it at first, but I’m actually kinda totally obsessed with the peach! This shade isn’t exactly “new,” either, but it’s newer to me – especially as a favorite. It’s completely peachy keen. 🙂
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Blush is a fave when you want/need a little shimmer in addition to a flush of color. There’s a bit of gold shimmer in this one, so it’s great for a springtime glow. And it’s formulated without talc + WITH silk so it’s suuuuuuper soft on your skin! I wear the shade “Sweet Cheeks.”
FAVORITE SPRING MAKEUP – EYE PALETTE
Both new palettes, both worth picking up. Backtalk is a bit mindblowing, TBH. The shades are all gorgeous berry hues, and then you flip the palette over and find an entire blush line, too! BLESS. I think everything is pretty blendable in typical Urban Decay fashion, which is always a #win. I lovelovelove that they made an entire palette in dedication to Backtalk, too, since it’s one of my favorite lipstick shades from them ever. It’s seriously the perfect pinky nude! Wearable every single day by just about any skin color, spanning age groups, too. Really, Urban Decay is just slaying the spring makeup game this year with their launches, so #bless.
This new MAC palette is FUN. I personally reaaaaally like that there’s a combo of a few warmer + cooler shades, a statement shade or two, + super wearable everyday shades. It’s a palette I could realistically pull out every single day to make it happen, whether it’s day, night, subtle or more glam. Wears well all day long, too! Also a fan of the Qween Supreme sister palette – TBH, IDK if I could reaaaaally pick favorites here. I’d say get ’em both – there’s a gift with purchase. 😉
What new spring makeup products are making it to your makeup bag?
Have you tried any of the above spring makeup as of yet? Are you picking anything up now? Let me know, sistah!
P.S. Since it IS spring cleaning week on CUR, pulling out this spring cleaning post from the archives – how to spring clean your makeup bag! When to throw what away, and all that jazz that we either a.) don’t already know and/or b.) totally forget until a friendly reminder. 😉
