We’ve all been living in sweats for, like, months. If you say you haven’t been, you’re lying. Loungewear started majorly trending last March, but Lord knows loungewear is always in style – and always what we reaaaaally want to reach for, because hello comfort. Especially since I’ve been rotating sweatshirt outfits for weeks (and weeks and weeks), I figured I’d share a little roundup of a few fun sweatshirt outfit ideas in case you’re wanting to mix up your usual combo for something fresher. Or, in case you’re in want of a way to style a sweatshirt that isn’t a.) too bummy, or b.) just sweats on sweats. These 8 should do the trick…
P.S. While my exact sweatshirt worn here is unfortunately sold out (it was a Nordstrom Sale find that I loveloveLOVE), I intentionally chose a monochromatic option so that each sweatshirt outfit idea was easily replicable in your own closet. Hope that helps! A few basic pink crewneck options below just in case you want the exact vibe. 🙂 Note, I did size up one to a Medium in this sweatshirt for a more oversized fit, so take that into consideration if you’re reaaaaally wanting the exact same vibe in any of the looks below!
Mirror mirror on the wall, this is the most “basic” of them all. Easiest way to style a sweatshirt: over your favorite LBL (that’s “little black legging” – ha!).
I juuuust got these black leggings in from Amazon this past week, and I’m impressed. They came highly recommend and in a 3-pack, so I was automatically intrigued since the price for 3 is GREAT (ends up being about $8.30 a pair!). They’re actually as butter soft as Lululemon Aligns, although I would say NOT an athletic legging since there is no sortof compression or wicking component. High-waisted, too! For a casual, ultra comfy pair, definitely worth grabbing a pack.
These booties have been favorites of mine for years now – and they’re ON SALE. WOO. Super comfortable, as Dr. Scholl’s are. (They’re my favorite shoe brand for running around as a busybody, because they’re never NOT comf!).
Let it hang free over the shorts or knot up if the sweatshirt is thin enough to do so. Pair with high-tops for an edgier sporty chic vibe.
LEOPARD BIKER SHORTS
Exact pair sold out, but here’s another bestselling pair. Man, I hope biker shorts are still vogue this spring because I’m just so into them. They’re like the summertime sister of leggings, and I hope they’re here to stay because I’m here for them. These have leopard print almost embossed on them, which I thought was subtle but fun!
A casualty from my latest Target drive-by. And by “drive-by,” I mean J drove by Target and let me out to “just grab one thing,” so I ran through the aisles cartless and grabbed them right off the shelf since they were too cute to exert self-control.
Currently sold out, but hopefully restocking soon. Here’s a cute option from Amazon.
Another easy option for styling a sweatshirt – just insert your favorite denim + favorite kicks!
A fave pair that I wear weekly – lovelovelove the more subtle distressing and raw hem for a more casual look, without it looking like the jeans met a weed whacker. HA.
I remember these being a big thing in high school and I was totally not about them. And man – I missed out. They’re comfy, they’re cute, they’re surprisingly versatile – and I can get matching pairs for Liv.
It was not at all my first thought to style a sweatshirt with a midi skirt, but challenge accepted. This would be an especially cute option for any baby bumps in da house!
Though she be but midi, she is fierce. And she is ON SALE!!! The side slit, the snug fit – surprisingly sexy feel to a near-ankle-length skirt. Styled super casually here obviously, but easily dressed up with a chic top + heels for date night.
A classic staple. I found mine at TJMaxx and never looked back.
Pretty in pink, but make it preppy. Style a sweatshirt over your choice button-down. Loafers optional.
There’s just something classic about a good chambray that makes it a timeless staple in any closet. This specific one is old from J. Crew Factory, but I just ordered this one from Amazon to compare for ya!
I got these white jeans with busted knees last year and wore them repeatedly – I like the bit of skin peeking out at the knee instead of having an all-white, too-harsh pantleg.
This is one from the mega-pack on Amazon that’s $19.99 for 18 headbands. They’re truly the COMFIEST headbands I’ve worn and come in basically every color under the sun, so I’d definitely recommend!
Sporty spice anyone? An instantly edgier twist on an otherwise girly sweatshirt!
I bought these during the last Nordstrom Anniversary Sale after seeing them in store – they’ve just got a cool vibe, and they’re surprisingly versatile. I’ve worn them super casually (like here!), but also dressed up with pumps and a chic top for date night. The best part? They feel like pajama bottoms. So really, a win all around.
These aren’t real Golden Goose – but they look just like these. 😉
Another fun headband pack from Amazon, but with a few different print options!
If Baby Spice met Clueless and had a baby. 😉 Another v different way to style a sweatshirt that I hadn’t originally considered, but what a fun option for a night out that’s still absurdly comfortable.
I’ve had this skirt for YEARS and couldn’t even tell ya where I got it from – I actually think it was a New York Fashion Week find a few trips back? You know, when travel was a thing? Ha! This looks feels a bit Baby Spice, and I’m here for it.
This are a must-have boot in my book – comfortable, classic, chic. They’re my go-to for date nights/nights out especially, usually over skinny jeans!
Last but certainly not least, we’re back to basics…styling a sweatshirt with good ol’ black leggings, with a jean jacket on top.
I had my eye on this bad boy for a few weeks before pulling the trigger the second it went on sale. And really, I’m SO glad I did – it’s such a versatile, classic piece! A slightly oversized fit with subtle distressing – easy to throw on and go whenever.
Again, these butter soft Amazon gems. Definitely recommend.
OK OK so these aren’t ACTUALLY Vans…but they look juuuuust like ’em. 😉 I found them on a whim at Burlington for, like, 10 bucks. Sold.
Which way to style a sweatshirt is your favorite?
Let me know which is most “you,” from one through eight!
