Fair warning: This is LIV’S WEEK on CUR. Why? Because girlfriend turns TWO this coming weekend, and I simply cannot deal. I can’t deal, I can’t hang – I’m a big ol’ mess because HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE. I mean, I know humans tend to, you know, get older. That’s kinda how this whole life thing works. But no one prepared me for MY BABY to be a part of this getting older thing, too. I digress. 😉 This past weekend was our lil’ fiesta to celebrate the OG turning the big t-w-o. It was Taco TWOsday, and it was glorious.
There were tacos, there was dancing, there were colorful cupcakes AND A PINATA – which was actually traumatizing to Liv, but stay tuned for that story below. 😉 It was just a few of our closest family/friends, all socially distanced around the whole house to make sure everyone was as safe + comfortable as possible, and we had a truly fabulous time celebrating our favorite girl.
Popping in today to share a few details + moments of the big day!
Ever since Liv’s ONEder Woman celebration last year, I knew a good balloon arch is a must for every subsequent birthday. This one wasn’t as epic, but I tried mixing it up with a little wrap-around, and it was a hit with kids – namely because balloons make good punching bags for two-year-olds. 😉 (Here’s the balloon arch strip I use to make my arch every time!)
Taco TWOsday apps included chips + queso, guacamole, 5-layer bean dip, salsas, + my favorite famous corn & jalapeno “crack dip” (HMU if you want the recipe 😉 ). Main dishes included a hard + soft taco bar, as well as a taco “casserole,” and for dessert we had airbrushed whipped cream cupcakes with fiesta-ready sprinkles (yum) + the CUTEST sombrero sugar cookies that were a smash hit.
I got quite a few Q’s on Instagram about my red dress – it was originally from this boutique but is sold out, so I found it here on Amazon for under $30! Woo!
Liv’s cute little red shoes are another Amazon find and come in other colors, too. Her “2” sombrero was from Etsy, and other important Taco TWOsday supplies (namely the big aptly-named Taco TWOsday balloons) etc were also from Amazon. Linking everything possible for ya here:
Speaking of smashing, there was a piñata.
It was, in fact, the big sparkly gold “two” that adorned the island for much of the party.
And it was, in fact, apparently very dear to the OG’s heart, so much so that she burst into HYSTERICAL tears when our 8-year-old neighbor took a baseball swing at it. It took gentle taps to really prove there were, in fact, her fave Reese’s peanut butter cups inside for it to be at all okay to break. *Noted. Catch that video clip on my Instagram Stories today before they expire. HA. Needless to say, I felt like the world’s WORST mama when what was supposed to be a fun activity turned into a horror show before our very eyes. Can’t win ’em all, I guess…so girlfriend got to indulge in, like, 17 Reese’s cups to make up for it. 😉
Another #MomFail on my part – I dumped a beer on her head. I KNOW, I’M THE WORST.
Turns out, I’m part Italian – so I talk with my hands a lot. Have you noticed? 😉
I was chatting emphatically, and there happened to be a full Coronita right in my hand’s path. So. You can already predict this story’s ending, right?
My sweet, sweet child was standing next to me as I knocked the beer over, waterfalling its contents RIGHT ON HER FACE. I mean, WHAT A FAIL amiright?!? At her own birthday party, I’m the one to douse her in a Corona and cause chaos. Me, her mother. Awesome sauce.
She obviously cried in startle of it all but quickly recovered thanks, no doubt, to the grace of the sweet Lord Baby Jesus looking down with laughter at my debacle. Hopefully this story can give you hope if you, too, dumped a beer on your toddler and/or traumatized her by smacking the living daylights out of an apparently beloved sparkly, candy-filled two. 😉
HUGE shoutout to Taylor + her lil’ fam for coming in from STL for the occasion, and to my parents for being the best Mimi + Papa – y’all were the biggest helps in helping bring Taco TWOsday to life, and it’s v obvious why Olivia adores you. I do, too. 🙂
Aaaaaand that’s a WRAP on Taco TWOsday – what a day!
What’s your favorite “two”-themed birthday party idea? Any good ideas for “threes”?
