**OK SO this was supposed to go live on Friday and I totally FORGOT TO HIT PUBLISH. Womp. Face palm. So…I’m now home but WAS in Utah this past weekend. 😉 Thankfully, bingeworthy shows are always in style…so here’s a cute pic of the three amigas on a mountain and the rest of what SHOULD have gone up a few days ago. Forgive me please. 🙂
Hello from SALT LAKE CITY! What a whirlwind. A few weeks ago, Taylor and I decided we should surprise our bestie Chels by showing up on her doorstep across the country. So…here we are! We got in yesterday and have the whole weekend ahead for some serious girls’ time. Stoked doesn’t even come closer to describing it. 🙂 I think we might end up binging all 3 High School Musicals in a row, or something truly millennial of us – ha! But since I know J + I are always on the hunt ourselves for bingeworthy shows to start, I wanted to start a list to share with you of our favorites so far – as well as a few still on our list to binge ASAP.
BRIDGERTON
Period drama/romance – Netflix
I kid you not, I’m on my 5th time through this 8-episode series, and I find no flaws in it. It’s truly perfection on screen and the most bingeworthy show of them all in my book. (As seen in Cool Sh*t I Lovelovelove)
J swore to the heavens he would never ever ever watch Bridgerton, yet on my 4th time through he said he’s “take one for the time” and try it with me “because he just loves me so much.” (Insert eye roll…we all know the guy was totally curious what this whole Bridgerton thing was about…or at least what all of our collective obsession with the Duke of Hastings was about 😉 ). And suddenly, we were on episode 5 and he was STILL WATCHING, and this is a guy who cannot stand period pieces.
While I have full faith that you are likely very familiar with the Bridgerton name already, let me reiterate – this is a bingeworthy show to not miss.
THE UNDOING
Psychological thriller/mystery – HBO Max
J + I got pretty hooked pretty quickly. The Undoing stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant and feels like it could be a six hour movie – so definitely something worth binging. The entire time we were trying to figure it out, and I’m a real sucker for a good whodunnit. It’s based on the book “You Should Have Known“ by Jean Hanff Korelitz.
I will say, we were a BIT disappointed with the ending, but NO SPOILERS – just see for yourself. 😉
THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT
Psychological thriller/mystery – HBO Max
Another good thriller option! The only thing I didn’t lovelovelove about The Flight Attendant was the amount of alcohol involved…the main character is an alcoholic, but it just seemed to be overboard with the references where it didn’t directly benefit the storyline anymore and felt unnecessary. BUT, definitely one that kept us guessing and kept us watching.
THE MORNING SHOW
Drama – Apple TV
We loveloveLOVED The Morning Show on Apple and can’t wait for Season 2. It stars my girls Jennifer Aniston + Reese Witherspoon, as well as Steve Carrell, and it’s such a well done show. It’s a drama surrounding the behind-the-scenes happenings + scandals of a top network morning show.
Rumor has it that it was based off of the real-life war between Good Morning American and The TODAY Show, even mirroring the scandal of Matt Lauer.
SCHITT’S CREEK
Comedy – Netflix
We ADORE Schitt’s Creek. Schitt’s Creek got us through NICU life and was one of the only bright lights during that time for our family – we’d come home from hours of driving and at the hospital and just watch one 30 minutes episode to remember what it felt like to smile again. Truly an incredibly well-done, hilarious show that we’re re-watching again – I laugh out loud every time.
It’s won SO MANY AWARDS by now, too – and worthily so! AND AND AND word on the street is that they *may* be considering making a movie based on the series, which would make my life complete.
THE MANDALORIAN
Fantasy – Disney+
Calling all Star Wars fans – if you have NOT yet watched The Mandalorian…wyd?!? Based off of the beloved classic Star Wars franchise, this series branches off from the movies and is set after the fall of the Empire, but before the emergence of the First Order.
It was created by Jon Favreau, who is essentially incredible. The man creates/directs/produces SO MUCH behind-the-scenes and doesn’t receive nearly enough credit, in my humble and totally irrelevant cinematic opinion. 😉
FIREFLY LANE
Drama/romance/friendship – Netflix
Fireflay Lane is based off of the book of the same name! While I haven’t read it, I thoroughly enjoyed the Netflix series and figure there will be a season two based on the ending (no spoilers, no worries). AND I had the incredible opportunity to work with Netflix to help share its debut, which was a dream come true – so YAY for Firefly Lane!!! Stars the incredible Katherine Heigl, Sarah Chalke, + Ben Lawson and is definitely a “chick flick” series.
WANDAVISION
Action – Disney+
If you’re a Marvel fan, I’m SURE you’ve already finished this bingeworthy show…although it was impossible to binge at first, since Disney+ dropped it episode-by-episode every Friday night. AKA, they tortured all of us. 😉 It was so good and serves as a bridge between the Avengers: Endgame movie and the next Dr. Strange.
The series follows Marvel Comic charcters Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlet Witch) and Vision, and pays homage to sitcoms of decades past.
Next on our binge list…
OUTLANDER
Historical Drama – Netflix
I haven’t started Outlander yet but have a hunch it’ll be a hit in my book. It has a completely cult following at this point, and since the first few seasons are now on Netflix – it easily made the bingeworthy shows list. Also based on a novel by the same name. The series centers around a former WWII military nurse who, in 1945, finds herself transported back to the year 1743. Apparently is steamy like Bridgerton with historical nods.
TED LASSO
Comedy – Apple TV
This would’ve NEVER made my list of bingeworthy shows had it not been for one of my fave authors, Jen Hatmaker’s resounding recommendation. So, here it is. Folks say to give it an episode or two to warm up with character development, and said folks also say to not mind that it’s *technically* about sports – you need not care about sports to enjoy it. A lighthearted British comedy that’s feel good in the best way.
OZARK
Crime drama – Netflix
J and I actually started the first episode but couldn’t finish it in the moment for some reason, so it’s been on our list to get back to for some time now. It stars Jason Bateman as a husband who relocates his family to the Ozarks to launder money. What could possible go wrong there, right?
THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT
Historical drama – Netflix
Another novel-based spin! I know we both have been hesitant to start this one since neither of us are big chess players. BUT, apparently chess is more of a background setting for the show, with the biggest focus being on the nature of the girl’s genius and her addiction to the sport. Time will tell.
