Sharing this dip with you today is a true treat. 🙂 This sausage cream cheese dip is maybe one of the easiest, yummiest appetizers and one of my personal go-to’s as a contribution for any party or game night with friends. If you’re already thinking of Sunday snacks for the big games, go ahead and bookmark this post awhile – you’ll want it on your spread! It’s only 3 ingredients to make and is a TOTAL crowd pleaser. I’m *also* sharing a quick how-to for little pita dippers that I prefer with this dip over tortilla chips; since it is a heartier, chunkier dip, the pita dippers hold the dip better without breaking. Because ain’t nobody got time for broken chips in their dip, amiright?

BUT FIRST – have you heard about ShopRite’s Can Can sale??? For my local ladies (+ gents), check your local ShopRite circular or their website here to see listings of all Can Can sale items (spoiler alert: there are A LOT!). It’s ShopRite’s awesome annual sale celebrating its 50-year anniversary, and – another spoiler alert – it’s not just on canned goods. Everything I bought above was on sale for Can Can, so it’s a good time to do a quick scan of your pantry and stock up. (Canned goods are 6 for $3, pasta is $1 a box – so many great deals + steals happening throughout the month!) And if your own pantry is already stocked for winter (bless), it’s also a great time and chance to grab extras for soup kitchen donations or canned good drives if that’s on your mind this time of year. 🙂
This particular sausage cream cheese dip recipe is one of my favorites to whip up on the fly because chances are, I ALWAYS have Rotel in my pantry. It’s one of those canned goods that goes the extra mile with so many uses (with pasta! dips! eggs! taco night!). I picked up about 6 more cans on my ShopRite Can Can sale run, so I’m good to go for awhile!
Let’s get into the yummy stuff…
Sausage cream cheese dip recipe:
Ingredients:
2 10.5 cans Rotel (or one 14 ounce can – cook’s choice as to which iteration of Rotel you like, depending on your spice preference!)
1 16 ounce tub Bowl & Basket cream cheese (Bowl & Basket is a ShopRite-owned brand with thoughtfully craft food + ingredients – I have SO MANY FAVORITES from this line!)
1 pound ground sausage (I used 1.5 pounds of sweet Italian here, but again, feel free to use hot sausage to kick it up a notch!)
Start by drizzling about a tablespoon of olive oil over a hot pan. Add your ground sausage and break it up in the pan, allowing one side to cook and start to brown before beginning to mix. When all of the sausage pieces are broken up and browned (it should look like taco meat at this point!), add the cream cheese + Rotel.
I add the cream cheese first since it needs to melt down; I’ve found it works best to give it a few minutes to soften before trying to mix anything together. Once it’s begun to soften and melt, add your Rotel cans!
Using a nice big flat spoon, mix everything together so that the sausage is completely coated and the Rotel is dispersed evenly throughout the dip. Once completely coated, let bubble and simmer on low heat to thicken.
While your sausage cream cheese dip is finishing…time for dippers!
I prefer whipping up these sea salt pita dippers instead of using tortilla chips, since this is a heartier, chunkier dip that risks breaking tortilla chips in smithereens. 😉
Sea salt pita dippers recipe:
Ingredients:
1 pack Stonefire naan bread (Find it in ShopRite’s incredible bakery department – literally the best grocery store bakeries I’ve ever seen)
Course sea salt (a pinch, to taste)
Black pepper (a pinch, to taste)
1 tbsp olive oil
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Lightly brush the naan breads with olive oil.
Add a sprinkle of sea salt + black pepper to taste. To cut the naan, I prefer using scissors for an easy, clean cut; cut into triangles for easy dipping.
Bake at 426 for about 10 minutes, or until dippers are lightly toasted and golden brown. If they’re not your desired level of golden brown at this point (every oven is different!), set to broil and watch until finished!
And VOILA – time to enjoy!
