Two Holiday Outfits (Casual + Classy!)

It’s the most wonderful tiiiiime of the year! Happy Monday-after-Thanksgiving, and Happy Holidays to one and all. Since we’re all experiencing turkey hangovers and leftover food babies right about now, here’s to a lighthearted, fun fashion-forward post with holiday fashion inspiration to keep your Monday feeling short and your coffee feeling strong. Aiiiiiight? Aiiiiiight.

First thing’s first: I’m a boots girl.

I have probably around 20 pairs of boots of all shapes, sizes, and colors, and I seriously just live in ’em when the temperature drops. Whether that means bundling up with thick boot socks and layered pants just to keep warm, or finding ways to dress them up for fancier occasions or holidays sans heels, I’m all about it.

That’s the thing in winter – ain’t nobody got time (or energy, let’s be real) to run around doing Christmas shopping and holiday decorating and stocking stuffing and baking and cooking and celebrating in stilettos. No way, JosĂ©.

In preparation for the slue of Christmas festivities this time of year, I did a little shoe shopping (whoops) at Famous Footwear and picked up two totally different types of boot styles, both fabulous for holiday styling.

With these boots and these wedge booties in hand, I went casual with one and dressier with the other for two viable options for ya. First up…

Casually Caped.

A casual outfit including a cape – so clever, right? Ha!

I am *such* a fan of this outfit…and casually wearing it one more time today. Layering long-sleeve stripes with a trendy cape is the perfect solution for weird weather patterns. In Philly, we’ve had days where mornings and evenings are FREEZING, but by midday you’re shedding layers and sweating. Especially when it’s chillier outside but heat is a-blazin’ indoors, it’s nice to have layering options that you can take on and off as necessary to accommodate varying temps.
I picked up a striped long-sleeve tee from Target and layered with a fun cape, pulling everything together with these jeans (they’re under $20!) and these boots.

Green with Holiday Envy

I lovelovelove this outfit, so much that I wore it for Thanksgiving with the fam and might just bring it out again for another celebration this season. These wedge booties pop so well against sheer black tights, and a classy Christmas color on top makes for one heckuvah gorgeous look that’s still movable and fun for holiday festivities.

This top was a clearance find from J. Crew Factory, and my Baublebar lookalike necklace was actually $50 cheaper than its counterpart. #win

Especially for Thanksgiving, I was tempted to whip out the “eating pants” and wear leggings or other stretchable pantalones to family dinner (pajama pants, anyone??). Instead, I opted to forcibly dress it up, so a bodycon skirt did the trick, hiding the food baby while remaining totally comfortable and dressed up for the occasion. Hollah.

I strongly believe there are two keys to ultimate holiday fashion.

1.) Keep it comfortable. You know you’re going to be eating up a storm of yummy goodies and treats, so ain’t nobody got time to be tugging at a rigid waistband or readjusting too-tight fabrics all day long. Opt for anything that moves and gives over restrictive materials to ensure you’re feelin’ good through all of the holiday festivities. But…

2.) Keep it classy. Sometimes to work in conjunction with numero uno, that means just adding a gorgeous statement accessory, or wearing the right pair of shoes with a cute heel or wedge to kick it all up a notch. Keeping it comfortable doesn’t mean you automatically have to go with leggings and slippers and nix the class. It just means you’ve gotta step up your style game to think of other ways to dress the part without feeling like you’re all prim and proper and confined.
