WHAT A WEEK. A quick personal note before diving into the house tour…I’m beat. ICYMI, I was in NYC all day yesterday for brand meetings and a speaking engagement at Hofstra University (shoutout to CUR’s first intern, Sarah, for making that happen!). What y’all didn’t see on Snapchat and Instastories was me hot-messing my way through the streets of Manhattan with all of the things I picked up at my meetings; if you saw a girl in a jumpsuit with hot pink bags overflowing with beauty products, that was me. 😉 More on that to come if y’all want, but for now I’m *finally* unveiling the last leg of our house tour: our master bedroom! You might’ve ALSO caught on Snapchat on Wednesday me similarly hot-messing my way through cleaning the room and shooting in an hour time span to get things ready to go for today. WOMP. Sometimes life is just a *wee* bit chaotic amiright???
I lovelovelove our master bedroom. First off, it’s waaaaay bigger than I ever anticipated. So I really dig the open feel. I also really dig the natural light. We’re #blessed with some really great natural light throughout our whole house, actually, so girlfriend can’t complain over here!
When we first saw the room on our very first tour of the place, we were originally a *bit* put off by the carpet. Buuuuut then it grew on us. I think the key to making a bold carpet work is the same as making a bold lip or a bold top work – work around one bold statement. If you’re rockin’ a red lip, you’re typically recommended to go lighter on the eye makeup; a dramatic, glam smokey eye AND a classic red lip can be a bit too much. So, I wasn’t about to pair a bold ruby carpet with crazy patterns and more color. I figured it *could* work, so long as most of the room was neutral, light, and more subdued. You guys will have to let me know…did it end up workin’ out?
So, the master bedroom.
Let’s go around the room, shall we?
Right when you first walk in, on the left wall there’s the beginnings of a fun lil’ gallery. And I say “beginnings” cos this baby ain’t done yet! I’m reaaaaally into gallery walls (I swear if I wasn’t a full time blogger I’d be a full time gallery wall maker). I like finding fun wall pieces at and HomeGoods, so a few of these wall hangings are from there. The top right one was made for me by my mom along with a sistah piece that’s going up soon, too, for my bridal shower. And the bottom right piece I made on ; the tiny text underneath the image that you can’t see has the date we first started dating, the date we got engaged, and then the date we got hitched. 🙂
More fun facts! My mom had saved allllll of the flowers she got when I was born, and she dried ’em all out and put ’em in a vase. Then any time I got flowers in high school and beyond – from school dances and musical performances to my wedding flowers – we saved + dried the buds and stored them. Kinda ridiculously awesome to have my wedding bouquet and my congratulations-on-being-born bouquet right by each other, yannnno? Haha!
Yes, that is a jar of M&M’s. But not just ANY M&M’s. They’re M&M’s that J had made with our faces on them for some holiday or another. HOW COOL. Definitely not eating those, ever.
I also keep this cute dish of perfume samples on top of the dresser – easy to grab n’ go, especially when packing for travel!
Continuing around, I am in loooovelovelove with our gigundo mirror! I knew exactly what I had in mind for this space, but I didn’t wanna drop $400+ on a gorgeous, lavish mirror. So when I found this bad boy on clearance for $99 on HomeGoods, I legit squealed. I want to figure out some sort of art/photography/etc to add above on that wall, but TBD there…stay tuned. 😉 In the meantime, I linked a bunch of other under $200 standing mirrors for any of ya in the same boat as me!
To the right of the mirror is the beauty-ful corner. Get it? Cos it’s full of beauty things? HA. My makeup station just had to be there cos hello, natural light! J didn’t get it at first, so I did a demonstration of what my makeup looks like when put on in the dark versus in beautiful natural sunlight, and I won that battle. 😉 I wanted to think of a fun place to put my dress hanger from our wedding day, and I was literally carrying it around the house looking at walls when it hit me – my makeup station is the perfect place! It’s like my own little corner anyways, so why not personalize it? Plus, a lot of personal details from our day call our master bedroom home, so it made sense.
My makeup station is pretty much all from IKEA – it’s the classic Alex drawer setup that every YouTube beauty guru and her mom have, so I thought it’d work like a charm in organizing all of my beauty ish. Turns out…it does! If you want to see a more in-depth makeup station reveal/makeup organization content, etc., leave a comment below to let me know! I keep me palettes all organized on top, then some select eyeliners and brushes, as well as some dishes of random beauty blenders, blotting sheets, beauty tools, etc.
In my drawers, it’s organized by category: lips on top, then a drawer of random products that I have open and am regularly using at the moment, then face products, eye products, and finally tools, setting sprays, lashes (even tho I can’t put on false eyelashes to SAVE MY LIFE SOS), etc.
Next up is this fun dresser! Now, this is J’s dresser. I say that so there is zero confusion. I got the master closet, he got the master dresser (+ the guest room closet). Fair, amiright? 😉 So all of my good smelly stuff, some select jewelry that I wear most frequently, a candle, some pictures, and another good smelling diffuser thing all live on TOP of the said dresser.
Some scents I’ve been particularly loveloveloving lately: , , and !
The jewelry I’ve had on major repeat lately: (mine is the biggest size on a 16″ chain!), , and !
I reaaaaaaally lovelovelove the section that’s coming together on the left wall. There will be two more of the 5 x 7 picture frames added below (for a 2 x 3 feel), but for now the 2 main 8 x 10 framed pieces are the letters that J and I wrote to each other for our wedding day. It’s so special to have them in a place like that, especially in our room where guests aren’t exactly hangin’ out. Then, each of our nightstands has a framed quotable, we each have our Bibles respectively, and then we’ve got other essentials: an oil diffuser, clock, photo of us, reading materials, etc.
We just recently got into , and lemme tell ya, you need one ASAP. It’s such a fabulous way to wind down after a long day. We use lavender oil before bed, and I swear it makes you sleep more soundly and relax easier! Something v important when you’re a busy #boss.
I was gungho on making our room as sentimental and us as humanly possible. On one of J’s work trips, we got to stay in the most gorgeous resort, like, ever. And we fell in lovelovelove with the bedding – it was down and felt like a cloud. So for one Christmas, I bought us the same exact bedding; the resort *know* its bedding is all that and then some, so you could buy it straight from them.
is the room’s most recent addition, and it was an actual labor of love. This is a piece of Scripture that was read at our wedding, so naturally it was a perfect fit here. I’m obsessed with how it turned out! If you’ve ever applied a wall decal you probably feel me on this: they take PATIENCE to put up. And discipline. Two things I’m considerably lacking most of the time. 😉 So I got some good practice in the patience department having actually slow the heck down for us to get everything up smoothly with no rips or bubbles. Totally worth it.
is also personalized – with the coordinates of where we met.
When I first heard of the company that makes this blanket, I knew I had to get one for us! Don’t Freak It’s Faux donates blankets to children’s hospitals. So excuse me as I buy one for everyone and their mom, cos these make absolutely *amazeballs* gifts (especially for any bride or mama-to-be’s!) AND are connected to such an amazing cause.
Lastly, meet Herman, whom I literally begged Jamie for this past Valentine’s Day. Because clearly, I’m 23 going on 12.
What do you think of our master bedroom?
I’d lovelovelove to hear about your own taste, too, so let me know what sorts of home styling you like best in a comment below! And if by chance you have Q’s on anything we have and I didn’t link it for ya, let me know – I’ll do my very best to find near exact lookalikes of EVERYTHING for ya if it’s not linked directly exactly!
P.S. ICYMI, all of our other room reveals are also #OnTheBlog!
