My All-Grown-Up New Years Eve Outfit (Under $40!)

Friends…It’s about to be 2020.

I know, I know…Christmas hasn’t even come yet, so can we not jump straight to the new year? But we are living in the future. Literally. In the Back to the Future movie trilogy, they jump to 2015 as “the future.” Here I was thinking they jump to 2025 but NOPE, their “future” is actually our “past.” Alright now I’m overwhelmed and need more coffee. BRB.

*gets coffee*

OK let’s talk balls dropping. (yannno, the Times Square ball? Mind outta the gutter!)

New Years Eve is high time as ever to break out the sparkles + sequins galore. It’s THE night to embrace all cheesy, cliche Pinterest quotes for making the next year “YOUR year,” so why not shine brighter than a disco ball to make that happen amiright? I, for one, am all for a shiny, sparkly ensemble. But if glitter gives you the feels of your younger-then days (or like you’re back in your college sorority house), I feel you. Of course, I’m a total sparkles/sequins/glitter galore gal myself, so I don’t GET you. But I FEEL you.  😉

Sometimes, you want to feel festive but with more all-grown-up vibes. And I can wholly respect and embrace that.

Enter, .

(Bonus: It’s not even 40 bucks, and it’ll be here WELL in time for your holiday festivities.)

When I first found on Walmart’s website, I KNEW it was “the one” to share for some solid New Years Eve outfit inspiration. (Their entire – check it out!) It’s a surprisingly versatile option that still has shine without being too glitzy or gaudy, so it really takes the cake for me as a more grown-up, glam option. And, really can’t beat the price. I’m never one to splurge on occasion pieces, since I know I’m not going to get the bang for my buck out of it. If you know you’ll be wearing something once or twice given the nature of the occasion, it’s not worthy dropping the big bucks on it (in my humble opinion). Instead, I’d rather splurge on something that I’ll be wearing often to really get good cost per wear on it and get my money’s worth! So $40 on an outfit ($60 if you count the shoes + tights total) ain’t bad – it ain’t bad one bit. It also comes if you want to shine things up a bit more than black. AND, lovelovelove that sizing ranges from XS to XXXL – it’s definitely more inclusive than other options I’veseen online, which is always so good to see!

And if this romper looks a bit familiar…good. 😉 I wore its cousin, , a few weeks ago in another affordable holiday look all from Walmart! Really, has been ~slaying~ the holiday style game at Walmart, and I could not be more impressed with each piece I’ve picked up so far.

Lovelovelove this look as a New Years Eve outfit in particular for a few reasons.

  1. The sleeves. They’re long without being hot. A sweater can leave you uncomfortable in a crowded, heated room in the middle of winter, but ain’t nobody got time for a strapless or sleeveless number either. It’s that perfect in-between that’s got a degree of warmth without being stuffy.
  2. The shorts. The vibe of a dress with the freedom to party like it’s 1999 – with patterned tights to boot, which are SO on trend right about now.
  3. The shoes are back at it again. Still cannot get over the fact that are on sale for $17!!! I can’t do regular slip-on pumps, so the ankle-strap is a much-needed, warmly welcomed addition for both comfort AND style. They’re classic while still being fun, and they work with every outfit under the sun, from skirts or dresses to bare legs or tights – even pants (as seen styled here!). They’re selling out QUICK so snatch your size before they’re all gone!
  4. It leaves room to accessorize! Add big statement earrings like I did or swap those out for a chunky necklace – you have room to play with sparkle in other ways since the rest of the look isn’t too glitzy.

BUT, like I said…versatile. There are options, people. If you don’t like it paired with tights/heels, try over-the-knee boots instead – still seasonally appropro and a totally different vibe!

What style of New Years Eve outfits are your favorite?

Do you go all out glam with sparkle + sequins, more subdued-yet-festive like with this romper here, or something different altogether…sweatpants? 😉
